time for the first oil change

well since owning my tj its time for the first oil change by myself since i had a free coupon before. but its got 85,000 miles now. 2.5. and i want to do synthetic since it will probly last me all through winter. but i believe the jeep has always gotten regular dino or a semi synthetic. will it matter if i switch over and do mobil?

ive used phillips 66 trop arctic in all my other vehicles though. a semi synthetic that has worked great. i might just consider that since its cheap.

and i was planning on going with a 5w-30 since its getting colder and run 10w in the summer. thats what i did on the s10's but is that fine to do in a jeep?

Run what the manual says. If you change regularly and keep it tuned, you are just spending extra money IMHO. All approved oils will do a good job on protecting your engine.

I have worked in -60 deg. weather, with wind chill, and have always just used a premium dino oil, such as Gastrol GTX. Never had any problems with cold weather hard starting, or premature engine wear. Like you said, dropping to 5W-30 during the winter, is suggested.

Good luck in winter wonder land.......
