Tire Carrier Kit For OEM Bumper?

Is there such a thing?
I'd like to take the spare tire weight (stress) away from my rear gate hinges.
I also don't want to replace my OEM bumper if possible.
Is there a carrier kit (swing) available that will mount to the OEM bumper?
Thanks.

The factory bumper is no where near strong enough to support a tire carrier.

Why don't you want to replace it? The stock bumpers are no different then a soda can.

Thanks... that's what I figured but thought I'd ask.
Reckon I'll start researching carrier/bumper kits.

Not that I don't "want" to... just don't "need" to at this time. Good to separate "wants" from "needs" sometimes, especially in this economy.
I've hacked-up and modded my rear OEM bumper already. I can assure you that they are indeed different than "soda can". Nowhere near what aftermarket bumpers are but they are fairly tuff. I get your "soda can" point but that's a bit over-dramatized of a comparison. OEM TJ bumpers aren't all that bad, especially when you factor in weight of popular aftermarket bumpers.
But yeah... I'll be pricing aftermarket bumpers with tire carrier rather than cheesing out and further modding the OEM since it wasn't designed for that.

Another alternative is the OR-Fab rear tire carrier.

Love that!
But yikes... kinda pricey for my Jeep budget.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around this carrier: Bestop Part 61961-01 - HighRock 4x4 Oversize Tire Carrier in Black Powder Coat Finish
Says it mounts to the body and swings with the gate. I'm thinking that plates go under the OEM hinges to reinforce that area??? Hard to tell.
This may be what I'm looking for if it takes the weight off the OEM gate hinges.
Perhaps someone here has experience with this system an could shed some light....

Scratch that.... it still relies on the hinges. Just a kit that allows height adjustment for the spare.

*Will only fit on 2009 JKs that were built before January 2009 due to a change in the tailgate trim. Constructed of heavy tubular steel, this one-of-a-kind tire carrier is black powder coated for corrosion resistance. It mounts to the body with backing plates and holds up to a 35 tire weighing approximately 200 pounds. The tire carrier swings away with the tailgate for easy access to the rear of your Jeep.

Here's a video from the bestop website so you can understand a little better how it is supported.

Very nice. I like the Bestop solution. Doesn't require a new bumper and looks like a logical design that will relieve the OEM gate hinges. Not crazy-expensive... I may go this route.
Thanks guys!!

I have the same Bestop tub mounted carrier as Patrick. Two years and many off road trips without a problem. I carry a 35" tire on it also. Works with any bumper.
At the suggestion of another forum member when installing, I used non-painted grade 8 hardware instead of the painted nuts and bolts provided with the kit.
