Tire/Lift/Gearing question

I found some 33x12.50 r15 tires with aluminum rims for sale. I saw pics of these on a TJ without a lift. Not a lot of clearance, but they fit.

Has anyone tried this?

Another question is...will my 3.07 gearing push these without major problems? I have the 4.0 with a 6-speed manual trans.

Thanks for any and all info and just remember I am not an expert and I do not have a lot of $$$ to spend on my Jeep. I just want to do a little here and there and the opprotunity for these came up and I do not want to waste my money if they just won't work.

Thanks, Dan

putting that size tire on a stock tj is a bad idea. you will be begging for issues due to rubbing. you will also seriously cut down on suspension travel. i am pretty sure the only way to get 33" tires to fit on a stock tj is to cut out a lot of the inner fenders. plus 33's on 3.07's is kind of pushing it with those gears. imo, it is not a good idea.

I wouldn't do it without some lift and better gearing. You're better off with some 31s

This is a nice and fairly affordable kit we just installed on a friend's Rubicon: Jeep TJ Suspension Lift.

Great advise. You just saved me some headaches trying to find a way to pay for these tires and wheels. I have been throwing around how I want my Jeep to look - 31s w/2" lift or 33s w/4" lift or 35s with 4"suspension and 2" body lift. I guess with my gearing I should stay with the 31s.

Thanks...all of you.

Dan
