Tire Size

Hey Everyone,

So the plan is to move up from my 31inch tires on 15inch wheels to 33 inch tires, I am currently on a 3.25 pro comp suspension lift with no lift on the body.

The jeep is a 1999 Sahara 4.0L 5 speed and I am wondering if there will be any re-gearing necessary or unnecessary stress on the engine and or axles or if the 33's will run smoothly. My alternative is just getting another set of 31's with more aggressive treads as the tread on these current 31's is getting real low.

I attached some pics just so you can get an idea of the look of the 31's and how high the jeep sits now. I do wheel pretty regularly on some mild trails and do venture every so often on trips to some rougher terrain so definitely voice your opinions on the best fit! Havent really put much thought into 35's but you never know

I also have a 99 Sahara with a 5 speed. I moved up from 31s to 33s. After going to the larger tires I really noticed the gearing difference both on the street and off road. After about 6 months I regeared from 3.73 to 4.56. Wow, that really made a big difference in how it drove. It's also great the higher clearance from the larger tires. Of all the mods I've done, the larger tires and the regearing has made the most difference in off road capabilities.

Same as 99er only different...I am running 33" Duratracs with OME SL and 1.25BL (check avatar for Pic)

Anyway have 3.73s and yeah I need to regear...and other complaint? even when discoed off road my Duratracs will rub front sway bar...think I am gonna start just removing it for wheeling.

Just about how difficult is and or costly is re-gearing to 4.56? From 3.73 which is what I believe I have

Be sure and check out your current gearing. Not only was 3.73 used, but also 3.07 as stock. Mine had the 3.07 and when I went to 33's I had little or no use for 5th gear. I wound up regearing both axles to 4.56 to the tune of about $1500. My brother moved to 33's with his 3.73's and while not great, it's a whole lot better than the 3.07's.

What rear axle do you have?
