Question Tire Size on Tailgate

I just saw this:

Tomken Machine Oversize Spare Tire Adapter for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

I thought that the weight of larger tires would cause the tailgate to warp. Thoughts? I would really be happy to find out that I can put a 33x12.50 on there without all that extra cost.

Nothing larger than a 32" tire for any long term plans or it will bend the tail gate.

I carry a 35 x 12.50 on mine - with the Bestop carrier. The weight is not supported by the tailgate, it's supported by brackets to the roll cage and body mount.

I love it - no fooling around with clamps or screws to open the tailgate.

Just open the gate like normal.
It's no wonder the country is falling apart - stupidity abounds!

I'm running a 33" MT on my tailgate with an Olympic Extended Heavy Duty carrier. No problems. If it tears the metal on the tailgate, I'll fix it. Easy enough. You'll hear a thousand different opinions on this, but it comes down to what you're willing to fix. I don't like rear mounted spares. I bed-mounted mine for a good while, but needed the room in the back to store some stuff for an extended time, so rear mounted the spare in the meantime. People will tell you that you need a high-dollar spare carrier mounted on a high-dollar bumper, but just remember this.......just because something is made for a Jeep doesn't mean you have to have it on YOUR Jeep.

I have a 32 12.50 on my stock carrier and after two years it is cracked. Get the aftermarket tire carrier.
