bahahaha same here! im going to try it on the black lettering first and see how it does cause i know it will be vibrant on the white so ill always get the other side just incase i make a mistake. it should come out on the black if its the like paintmarkers im used to they come out alot like whiteout and hey that covers black ink right?

Great post guys! I have been reading this for the last couple of weeks and finally painted the inside of mine. Nothing fancy, just a darker grey. The only problem I have is the paint sctratches off really easy! I followed all the prep work, like washing the parts, using a solvent to clean the surface and scuffed the surface. Paint looks awesome and I even clear coated it with an Duplicolor enamal to match the Duplicolor paint. Do I need to start over and reprep everything? or is there another type of clear coat I can put on? Your advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Honestly I didn't do a hard scrub, use solvent or an enamel coat and I have no issues. I just made sure I had several coats on. Really, I put about 4-6 coats on (once I start with a rattle can, it's hard to stop ) I also made sure it was over 70-75 degrees outside, left the top down and let it air dry for about two days before getting in it.... Hope this helps

paint scheme

I love the black/red paint scheme and i really would like to do it, i was just looking for some feedback of whether it would look good with a dark blue paint job on a Rubicon LJ. I am somewhat colorblind and i tend to ask others judgement before i paint anything; the jeep is dark blue in color and looks black in the shade. I Would like to do the paint alot like dragonii and i think it would look sweet with the dark blue and some red accents on the clevis and dif covers or maybe the calipers...im rambling lol. Just wondering if anyone has seen it done or what they think it would look like.

I never did see a post saying whether this worked, I know it is completely off-topic but very curious.

Havent tried it yet, that package is $35 and its only 12" x 24" I cant justify the purchase yet, still looking for something cheaper.

One of the guys on the Humvee forums posted a few cheap alternatives that he uses to quiet down our loud as hell interiors. Here are a couple links he gave...

Refelectix. Dirt cheap, basically bubble wrap that is aluminum two sided. A little spray glue and bingo. Excellent heat barrier for wagon roof, engine bay and tunnel.
Shop Reflectix 25-ft x 16-in Radiant Barrier at Lowes.com

Audimute "Peacemaker" (oh brother).. what a name but works really well. $130 for 50sqft, worth every penny. Good for padding up interior parts, door panels and a replacement for the grey/tan crap.
Peacemaker 6.4mm Anti-Vibration/Isolation Material - 2' x 25' - Audimute Soundproofing

M D Building garage door insulation sheet. Similar to Reflectix but much denser yet very flexible
Shop M-D Building Products Silver Garage Single Door Insulation Kit at Lowes.com

Those are his thoughts on them before the links. I have yet to tackle this job on my truck but when I do I will be looking for ways to save $$$ too.

That reflectix is dirt cheap, that may be my next purchase. Do you think it will hold up to the heat given off near the exhaust?

From what he and another guy were saying it looks like it would. They are using it on the inside of the doghouse on our Hummers which is the engine cover like an inboard boat almost. It sits right on top of the diesel engine so according to those guys it holds up. I have not tried any of this myself so I can't be sure but I thought I would pass it along

Shame on you for wanting to make your Jeep more fun

Its not as expensive as it seems. $5 per can 4 cans yellow (since I had dark grey interior) and 3 cans black, acetone $5, green scrubbing pads from kitchen, window crank tool ($5 if you dont already have one) and a rattlecan trigger $4 (your fingers will thank me later for this one, see picture below.)

All in all under $50, the most expensive part for me was the time it takes. about 6 hours total over 2 days to compensate for drying times and multiple coats on the yellow. Trust me when I say you wont regret it, and it doesnt take a genious to do this, if I can do it anyone can.

Bedlined the inside of the hard top and freedom tops. $21. Matches the black plastic perfect!

I painted my door interior a few months back but didnt do proper prep work, just washed dwn with warm water and acetone.. the paint flakes and chips off really easy.

Im going to redo it but what should i do with the layer thats already on there?

Just sand lightly, wash, and wipe with acetone. Do many light coats of paint

This is what I came up with all the vents are red on the inside. The red striped are not perfect but good enough for me I ha to do them by hand with a brush because I wasn't taking the airbag out and the spray paint didn't do a good job getting into the crack of the speedometer cover. Oh well good enough oh and did not do the center console or the doors yet as you can see
