No, I picked up Banner Red. Red Pepper may have been a better match.

I have half doors so I can't do the middle of them so I just want to paint them satin black along with the center radio surround, gauge surround, airbag thingy, and the center console (and the rest but I forgot what it's all called) but I think you get the picture.. If not I'll explain more in the morning. I'm dead tired. Lol

I'd say Fusion for the blue and DBC for the rest to give you the black.
The bumper coating will take on whatever texture the plastic has and since it has a satin finish it will look just right.

i painted my door panels awhile back before i knew proper painting prep and they suck... they literally chip and peel if you run your fingernail over it in most parts.. My question is should i just use a scotchbright pad and use this prep then paint over the paint?

Try to get as much of the old paint off as possible.
Did you use Fusion or some other plastic paint or just regular paint?

If it's flaking off, flexing or twisting the plastic a bit may help to break the little bit of a hold that the remaining paint has.

Painting the center piece is fine, I just prefer it painted a neutral color like black.

These will show the difference between following the cosmetic lines designed into the interior vs. painting the easiest parts to remove.

I do like the red line on the door panel. For those with half doors that looks like a good way to bring some color into those panels.

I'm not saying that what they did was "bad" or "wrong"... I just find that the color flows better when you follow the natural design of the cockpit.

$6.99 a can at my local Autozone.

I used 2.5 cans of it to spray the center console (both pieces and the lid), the center piece around the radio and the piece around the instrument panel.

Ok, one more question. Lol. Im about to get everything to do this, if I do the center console, gauge piece, and radio piece in the bumper coating. What color black should I get to best match?

Why not just use bumper coating for everything that you want to make black?

It has the same plastic adhesion qualities as Fusion and the finish that it leaves, in my opinion, looks even nicer than Fusion.

As far as color goes, it's black. If you look at the black plastic that make most mirrors or trim pieces are made out of, like a new set of fender flares, that's pretty much what it looks like.

They do offer it in other colors like gray but what you find in most autoparts stores is just black.

I'm not wanting to do the just "easy" parts. I want it to look like yours and lil yellers. I like the under steering wheel, glove box door, and the thing behind the oh crap handle and the speaker things.
All of that is going to be blue

And I want the rest to be black. I'm thinking of the bumper stuff to do all of that. I don't care if I have to take it out or tape it off.

Can you take out the center console? Like the arm rest thing and thingy around the shifter.

I don't any of these names do that's why I use the word "thingy" alot

Thanks to dragonii and lil yeller I decided to change my interior as well. They are dead on right about how good fusion and duplicolor paint is. I have a black 06 lj and decided to go with the red accents for those I have seen in this post wanting to know how the red works with black here are a few pics.

I had that same goofy green skull shifter knob, completely fell apart after 2 months. Autozone replaced it for free and the replacement only lasted 2 weeks! I'm back to stock now, dragonii yours still hangin in there?

Great write-up but I wouldn't use acetone on plastics. It has a habit of melting and eating right through the plastic. That dirt you're seeing is probably more like paint and plastic coming off. I'd use a high-content rubbing alcohol or Simple Green.

"thingy" is very universal.

Yes, the console is easy to take out.

Two bolts in the cup holder on the back of it under the little drop in rubber thingy, one bolt under the cup holder by the e-brake and one bolt under the shift boot. Shift boot rim is just snapped on. Pull up one the edges of it a plastic pry tool or your nails and it should pop lose.

That front piece is easier to pull out if you have the Jeep in 4l... the stick will then just slide right through.
Lid is held on with two screws, lid lock pops right out if you squeeze the tabs on the under side of it.
Lever opening brushes on the 4x4 selector can actually be removed easily but the ones on the e-brake will need to masked off with tape.

Helpful hint: to paint the big center console, hammer a stick or pipe into the ground and just slide it down over it. It will rest on the bottom of the tray inside and then the whole thing will just hover in the air. Walk around it and spray.

I don't have a shift boot rim... My boot just sits below the plastic. I need one though
