Yes, you can take the cover off. Lots guys on here have. I explained how I did it previously in this thread:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/tire...ml#post3939232

It's kind of a pain to get to the 2 bolts, but you can do it. Not difficult at all. Of course, you can just mask everything else off, if you want to, but I think that's a bigger pain than just taking if off.

Well unhooking my battery isn't happening, it's corroded, but how do I take out the whole airbag unit? I really don't want to tape everything off. Is there anyway to leave only the airbag cover and take the rest of the dash out?

Thanks,
Cameron

I know that feeling. This is my first in 12 days. I was getting withdrawals, not being able to play with the Jeep

You don't have to take your battery out...just unhook the negative terminal. And yes, you can take the entire dash out and just leave the airbag cover on, if you want. You have to take it off last, anyway. Everything else bolts on top or over it.

Got the cover off! It does come off for everyone that says it doesn't. There are two nuts on both sides of the unit that are pretty hard to get too, but it is possible to come off!

With that yellow jeep? You've got to add yellow to the interior!

Was going to go with the black initially, bc it does look good. Then decided to go with the original bc the contrast looks good and that much black would drown out the green. I have seen a yellow Jeep done and it looks really good...not sure if it was a TJ or JK. I would check that out before i committed on the black.

Nothing too hard with the bolts...cleaned them with a wire brush and sprayed some rust to primer spray I had on the shelf then hit them with some black rattle can paint. Keeping track of all the hardware is probably the hardest part. Tried to have a organized and methodical system...the number of left over screws and bolts will determine how successful I was. It seems that I continuously fail in this arena.

Yea I fianlly got it. Finished the dash part. Gotta do doors and center console. Not sure that I like the dark blue on black but gonna give it the week to see if it grows on me. I think it matches the color of the jeep good tho.

Put the TJ back together after lining the tub and painting the dash.

I made few mods and may decide to leave the center console out for awhile or just get an after market one

I cut the rivets for the air bag off with a sawzall. The room back there is very handy for mounting stuff (inverter, cb, drug stash, amp, etc). I will have 5 point harnesses for both driver and passenger when done.

That looks awesome man. I have the green exterior color and I am going to line my tub here soon. What brand of liner did you use? Looking at maybe doing a color like that to add more character than plain black.

I think the complete kit was 109 plus shipping from TP Tools. The Upol kit I bought came with the gun for spray on which is ultimately why I went with Upol...I have done the roll on and it's even more painful and I wanted a clean even texture throughout. We went back and forth bc I have heard nothing but good things about Monstaliner. The website says you can also roll the Upol kit on.

We ended up refurbishing a lot of the parts as we took them out. I didn't have any rust in the tub but all the screws and just about anything metal needed to be primed and repainted. That took a lot of time. I just couldn't see doing all that work and not taking the time to put new screws or paint them. The best way to prep the tub is to use the pads, red 3M pads or Lowes has a similar product (grey in color) a little cheaper, and scuff the tub just a little. It was more work taping than scuffing the tub.

I had the same problem, if you have a free account you can only have so many pics uploaded at once. So either delete a few or upgrade.
