You won't take the time to read a thread that others have spent time of their own to share what works and what doesn't so that the masses don't have to repeat the same mistakes or so you don't have to learn the hard way? And you expect someone to give you the cliff notes version because you don't have time to read through it?

I just want to make sure I understand what you are asking before I reply?

To continue off of my waivering of color choice...

Driving a Deep Amathyst (Purple) TJ, Interior is faded grey. About to bedline the jeep all black. I don't want the Dash to be all black too that'd be hot and boring.

My DD has an all black interior with a little bit of silver down the center console...I was thinking of this with the Jeep interior.

Has anyone seen a dark grey Krylon Fusion or what was the other Duplicolor? Or should I go with the Silver? I think I saw something called Grey Rock or something of the sorts.

Just looking for thoughts and comments on a Black and Grey (Silver) interior.

Thanks in advance

LOL...I am still waiting to receive that stupid shift bezel. Apparently there was a shipping mishap and it was sent back to shipper. Suppose to receive it today. If so, it will be installed Saturday morning and I will add a pic.

BTW, Bullethead...I think the Black/Grey or Black/Silver combo would look very good with the exterior color.

Thanks Tony, I'll try and find a bit of a darkish grey to spray with but looks like silver is all that I can find.

Dragini, I have read this thing a few times and not sure I saw how you did the door latch. Or did you just leave it be?

veedawg - some used soap/water and then followed up with acetone. I used a degreaser (spray bottle stuff), then followed up with acetone. Both dried relatively fast, unlike soap/water unless you manually towel dry.
After that I applied a couple coats of paint. Very simple process.

I was just asking for techniques I on how not to get soap and water on my carpet. I was just careful. I did use alcohol instead of acetone. Hopefully it works as good. No problems so far

I took off my door latches (I have half doors), cleaned them up and sprayed them with the same black bumper paint I did my dash with.

Huge improvement!

Roger that, thank you. Guess I'll have to look up how to take them out then.

By the way, love your avatar, wish I had a bumper sticker like that or something.

Hahaha!! Thanks! Star Wars meets Jeep!! I was just looking at the jeep logo one day and thought it might be able to work inside the Fett helmet, somehow. Little nip here, tuck there, and bam! Custom logo born!!

To answer your comment, I'm actually pricing out some decal versions of the logo. I wanted something I could put on my rig as a side decal.

If you might be interested, lemme know!!

Sent you a PM.

Anyone else use the Dupli-color Bumper Coating for the Center Console?

I am just wondering, did you put a top protective coat on top still? If so what product, will Krylon Clear work just fine?

Also, the Console Lid, a different material. Did it take longer to dry? I'm noticing that the whole center console is good and dry after a third coat but the Lid is rubbing off on me a bit.

This thing will see alot of my Elbow on Hot days, I really don't want to have black rub off on me all summer.

The Grab Bar is also the same material, what did you use on that? I'm still trying to figure out how to get it off the damn dashboard but I want to be prepared at least.

Got it. I didn't do a top coat...but mine's holding up just fine, so far. Certainly couldn't hurt. Full disclosure though - not a DD...weekends only.

On my dash and console lid, I used Duplicolor Vinyl and Dash black paint...and totally removed everything. (Which was just about a whole day, by itself). Also, you can use paint adhesion promoter. That helps it stick. I used that in a couple of places.

I really read over the first 10 pages or so of this thread. It'll tell you everything, except how to get the airbag cover off. I did a short post a few pages back on that. It's the biggest pain in the butt...

The main thing is give the paint time to cure. If you leave your painted pieces in direct sunlight, the paint will stay tacky and won't cure all the way. If you leave it in the garage for a couple of days, it'll harden and cure enough to go back in your jeep. Then, it'll be pretty resistant to scratches.

If its rubbing off, just let it sit a while longer. And be sure you used alcohol to wipe it down with after you first washed it, before painting. Oils from armor all or other cleaners can stay on there a long time and screw up the paint.

Has anyone ever attempted to put a YJ dashboard in a TJ? I'm tired of my TJ interior and would rather have a YJ dash.

It's impossible for YJ guages to be driven by the TJ system. If you Google search YJ or CJ dash in TJ, you will find a few people who have made alternate style dashes but it is not cheap or easy. YJ dash style is horrable. CJ is much cleaner

Weekend only driver here as well. I'm debating not even painting my dash cluster and radio as its still good and black and not faded. The Airbag may be getting painted while in the car. Along with the Oh Shit Grab bar as I cannot seem to get it off. I feel the two bolts back there but no clue what size they are.

I've read this thread a few times and thats what led me to ask a few questions, I never saw anything about how someone painted the door handles inside, or how someone removed the Grab Bar above the glove box (my manual just says something like Pry off the cover and remove... Thanks for being descriptive.) Never saw anyone's response to using the DBC and if they threw a top coat over that.

I checked it yesterday, everything dryed up well. I am still worried if I sweat with my elbow on it will it run so I may do a top coat.

I am going through a lot more cans of this then everyone else did haha, maybe I have a heavy trigger finger.

The grab handle had two bolt that hold it on to the dash. I think they are like 8mm or something like that. If you remove the glove you can get to em. In this case a ratchet wrench will be your best friend.

10mm deep well for the grab handle. I think it's the same for the airbag.(10 mm)
