Tires & wheel options for 98TJ (4 banger)

New to the forum and think yall can help.

I purchased a 98TJ recently, high miles, but looks and runs great with the 4banger and 5-speed transmission.

The tires are only P215/75-15s....

I would like to go to a more common size (ie 31x 10.5 x 15) if possible because of alot of tire and wheel packages out there.

Question: Can the 4 banger handle it without loosing too much performance and should I use a 2" coil spring poly lift that Ive seen offered?

Any advice would be nice....Thankyou

Hi,

the 2.5 is more than capable to handle the 31" tire. I think the 4 cyl TJ has 4.11 gears... i ran 32" tires with my old 4 cyl YJ and the stock 4.11 gears (that was with 3.5" leaf springs and slightly longer shackles). The 2" coil spacers should work perfect with those tires... and you can get by with the stock suspension and 31" tires.

my advice would be to go for it.

I have the 2" BB on mine, She's a 2001 and 31 x 10.50-15 tire I love the way she rides , The 2" BB is not a nessisity just look's less like a stocker with the lif. Not theres anything wrong with a stock TJ my wife just called her aGirls Jeep for the longest time.
