Title says 1999 but VIN says 1998??

Was considering trading in my 99 Wrangler. Was at the dealership and they used a VIN decoder that says it is a 98 Wrangler. All VIN numbers in Jeep match title which says 99. Sticker in door jam says manufactured 6/08. Should I be concerned it is coming up as 1998 based on VIN? I assume this is the case if someone pulls up a CarFax?? Can someone explain?

Thank you!!!

Put your vin on here I run a carfax for ya. Dealers sometimes have there head in their ass so dont always believe them.

They had a 97 Wrangler with Rubicon on side and tried to sell it as such. I told them to put in writing that it was one and i would buy it. They later recanted.

The 10th digit of the VIN determines the year model.

17 Digit VIN Year Designate

10th digit is "W" which according to decoder should be 1998. Title and owner's manual say 1999 and it was manufactured in June of 98. When do they typically begin manufacturing the next model year?

Also, just plugged VIN into car fax and it says:

1998 JEEP WRANGLER SE/TJ SE

My title says 2wd, how do you mess that up? I tried calling them and they won't fix it, they won't admit that someone at the dmv has a "fat finger". They argued with me about a Jeep being 2wd...idiots. So oh well my title says 2wd nothing I can do.

Do the VIN's match digit for digit?

Regardless, the VIN determines the year model, not what someone mistyped at the tax office.

I'm not exactly sure, maybe they start producing them in jan. Mine is a 97 and it was manufactured in March of 96.

I'm thinking fat finger at DMV also! Punched in VIN on Chrysler's site (for recalls) and they have 1998. Need to dig up purchase paperwork somehow and get it fixed.

Thanks everyone for the input.

If it really is a 98, you may be able to save some property taxes if they are based on the year of the car. May also want to check in to any refund you could get back if it's a type error on the part of DMV. Good luck.
