What V8... LS1, LT, 5.9 or 5.7 Hemi or the standard 350 from junkyard... etc...

Lot of fab work and mods to fit it, but for the most part Advanced Adapters has alot of the plates and adapters to fit it in.

You'll need new motor mounts, radiator, trans&tcase may survive but most upgrade those as well as the axles, especailly if you have the D30/D35 axles.

Do a search on here or look thru a few pages, the V8 talk on here has had numerous posts.

Why a V8 or whats the need for a V8, just curious, since I've seen a ton of posts lately about it.

acod916,

I would suggest you check out "Novak Jeep Conversions" and "Advanced Adapters." Novak is dedicated only to jeep. Advanced handles all kinds of vehicle swaps. Novak's website has a ton of information that can help you decide what you need by your choice of drivetrain.

As far as tips go... get your self a good digital camera (not your phone) and take a lot of photos BEFORE removing anything. I planned on doing my rebuild in one shot BUT after tearing it apart, I couldn't get back to it for a few years. It happens. Weird things creep up. Anyway, those photos saved my bacon on many occasions. Buy Gallon and Quart Ziploc freezer bags and put all your parts in there. Label the bags AND include index cards with any fine details about the parts. This is the only way i rebuild jeeps.

If you want to get an idea of what's involved in this kind of swap, check out my signature below and look it up on this forum. It won't be exact, but it will be very close to what you have to do. Anyway, the theory is the same and it should help you with your plans.

Take care,

Before dropping any money on a chevy conversion take a ling good look at a Mopar conversion. I swapped a 5.2 with a 44RE trans into my TJ. Cost about $2500 total and about 50 hrs of labor . The things that make the most sense are the little things like power steering ,fuel systems ,wiring and gauges . Here is a link to my build thread ( sorry its on another site ). I have put 10k miles on it since the swap and I love it .http://www.jeepskool.com/board/viewt...hp?f=3&t=10093. A teaser pic

Would a Dodge engine make it an easier fit?

When swapping in the mating trans.
No t-case adapter .
Power steering pump switches over.
Gauges work with a spliced harness
Grand Cherokee exhaust works with minimal mods .
Fuel lines have the same fittings and stock fuel pump will easily supply V8.
Yea I would say much easier and cheaper.
Look at the above link for pictures of all the little things. I took a lot of time to document the swap.

Read your diary, hardcoretj! It is not for the faint of heart. How much would you guess labor would cost if somebody outsourced it?

Trying to find someone capable to do it would be the tough thing. If you ate on the west coast Backwoods Offroad will do a turnkey conversion for you. www.backwoodsoffroad.com. It wasn't really all that hard ,if you can change a clutch without a manual you can probably do this. The real problem is there is not much documentation to be found to do this. I really need to take the time to transfer my build thread onto this site so more people can find it.
