Pics. 1st was at the car wash, 2nd was after I got back to my driveway.

So much better. I tend to be very sensitive to light at night and the reds are so much more comfortable when driving.

They DO NOT dim on my 97, just incase anyone was wondering. And i know my dimmer works bc I did not do my hvac and they still dim.

And the whole job took 15 minutes with a break to attempt to assassinate one of the squirrels that have moved into my roof. Damn tree rats.

Try a paintball gun. They fire really fast and the ammo won't hurt your roof. Plus it washes off after a few rains. Just don't fire near windows.

I killed a bird once at 50 feet by accident, I didn't think it would do anything but scare it off. I was wrong, it fell right off the fence post.

Red looks good though, I am thinking of doing this myself once I get my other projects done. Also you should be able to put in a resistor if you want them to dim, Though I wouldn't have a clue what type to get.

Yeah not worried about the dimming, they are the perfect brightness.

As for the tree rats, i could break out my tippman a5, but my air rifle is easier and doesn't look like i am hanging out in the driveway with a silenced assualt rifle. I just roll the window down in my truck, lay the seat back and i have the perfect blind.

Just did my dash and hvac in red. Unfortunately I got the less bright red for the hvac and plan to order new ones.
Now that I look at it, I want to order white for hvac and trans shifter. Do I need the extra bright ones for hvac and trans shifter if they're just white?
It's a 2002.
Thanks!
Red dash looks awesome btw. Love this thread.

Just a note, the white will be blue in the HVAC. There is a tint on the numberals

How did you get no hot zones? What bulb specifically did YOU use? And what year is the jeep? Thanks in advance

This is just theory but some colors like yellow/orange/amber/red work on wavelengths that appear dim. For those colors you might want to try the Tri LED's mentioned earlier in the thread as they disperse more light over a larger angle, since the bulbs in the cluster are kind of far apart.

For the brighter colors like white/blue, you will probably be fine with the single bulbs.

Again just a theory, but i think that is what is causing the dim spots. At least from the pics i have seen, it doesn't seem like the white's and blues have that problem as much as the dimmer colors.

Alright, so after reading the thread I'm still confused a little bit. What are the brightest led's I can get for dash and HVAC without any dead zones on them? I replaced the ones in my HVAC with NEOx Hi Powered leds and it seems really dim to me (yes I checked my dimmer lol)

Just something i found our from someone on here, you can actually remove the tinting off of the back of your instrument panel. It makes all of the colors true with no bright spots! Its actually quite easy to do.

You have to pull the base out of the cluster that looks like the new one. Your blue bulb should pull right out of that brown base and then you can put it in the base the green one came out of or you can pull the existing base from your cluster and replace with this entire new piece.

I'm having no luck pulling them out. Struggling not to break them. Do they twist out?

Actuall yes you have to twist the base 1/4 turn I believe. It will NOT come straight out.

After reading 25 pages of this thread I bit the bullet and bought:

Auto Transmission Indicator
(1) WLED-xHP4T2-AC: 194 LED Bulb - 6 SMD LED Wide Angle Base WLED- xHP4T2-AC: Red $4.95/bulb

Gauge Cluster
(5) 74-xHP: 74 LED Bulb - 1 SMD LED Wedge Base 74-xHP: RED $2.49/bulb

HVAC and O/D Switch
(4) NEOx-xHP: NEOx LED Bulb - High Power Instrument Panel LED NEO4-xHP: 4mm NEO4-xHP Red $2.29/bulb

Total $28.23

I only have an Overdrive switch on my Jeep since I have a Soft Top. I also didn't care about the indicator on the switch and I am just going to leave that alone.

Ill post pictures when I am done.

I have one question: Is there a blue/green cover behind the rocker switches or the HVAC controls? I know there is one behind the Auto Trans indicator.
