Maybe it's the thickness of the white paint on the HVAC control? Think I'm just going to live with it until I get froggy again one day.
my red HVAC ones are pretty dim as well, i thought it was just because it was bright outside when i put them in but they are all working and pretty dim at night, o well still cool tho!

Does anyone know if you can replace the lights in the toggle switches? Ie. Fog lights wipers defrost?

Yes. I did mine. They are stock toggles on a '97 TJ.

My wiper toggle took a T2 NEOx-x.

Rear defroster toggle took a T1 NEOx-x and a T2 NEOx-x (switch actually has 2 bulbs in it). One bulb for the symbol and the other bulb for the small lens that indicates the defroster is on. You could probably do without the T1, since that little plastic lens is orange (mine is).

I don't have a fog light toggle, but I suspect it would also take a T2 NEOx-x, since it would contain only 1 bulb.

Hopefully, you didn't order yet. I posted from memory and should have known better at my age.

I looked for my invoice, but can't find it so I went to the LED website.

The lamps are all T1's - only the size is different. The smallest is 3mm (which would be for that orange lens I spoke of on the rear defroster). 4mm would be for the symbol lighting (what you see when you put on your headlights and the rockers are lit).

Sorry for the confusion.

Ok so all I can find is the T1.5 series. No just t1's? Are these the same? Edit: I found them once I went to the purchase screen.

I just bought red LED's for my 2001 TJ. I haven't installed them yet (and hope I got the right ones) but plan on installing them this weekend. I plan on changing out the dash/HVAC/wiper/defrost switch. For those interested (if they all work) my order was the following:

Superbrightleds.com

For Dash (need 5 but ordered 2 extra)
(7) 74-xHP3: Wedge Base LED bulb-74-RHP3: Red

HVAC/wiper/defrost switch (3 for HVAC, 2 for switches)
(5) NEOx-x: NEOx LED instrument bulb-NEO4-R: 4mm NEO4-x Red

Light in defrost switch
(1) NEOx-xHP: NEOx High power LED instrument bulb-NEO3-RHP: 3mm NEO3-xHP Red

Total cost - $36.16

I haven't installed them yet but I will post pictures for all who may be interested in the mod.

I did my dash in UV blacklight. these pics from my phone don't do it justice. very hard to get a good pic of blacklight. its purple and really cool. not as uneven as it looks in the pics. they are brighter right at the bulb but the entire dash is lit up. did HVAC as well but thats not as bright.

well, found that the black light was distracting so, changed it to red but left the high beam indicator blacklight. they are so bright now, this pic was taken during the day. really nice red and matches my jeep

can you do the rpm gauge in one color and the speedometer in another or will the colors blend? and are the x74hp3 better than the other 74's? will the hp3s work in a 2000 tj? super excited about doing this mod so cant wait for a reply! lol

The colors would blend. There are 5 dash bulbs,,one being dead center so gauges would be half and half. I used the cheap 74bulb and the red is bright. Visible during the day, lol. they were cheap enough I ordered 2 sets. Good luck. Also high beam uses same bulb if u want to change that one too. Think ur HVAC uses different bulbs than mine. Mine for a 97 were all a 74bulb

If you have the HVAC control with the 3 knobs you likely need the NEO bulbs for that. See the earlier posts. The original thread starter gives the specs on the bulbs needed.

My gosh, that easy, huh?! So I don't have to hire someone to take the dash apart! This is how it's supposed to be!
