TJ Dash Lights Mod. Easy and Cheap!

Purchased the 8 blue leds from - Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories
5 for the instrument panel and 3 for the HVAC controls.
$23.17 with Priority shipping.
Really easy to do and took maybe an hour total. Several colors to choose from.

Seriously, the hardest part was removing the dash and that was quite easy. I just started unscrewing anything that looked like it needed to come out. There are 2 plugs in back of the instrument cluster that were easy to reach and unplug.
The photo of the cluster is exactly what it looks like. 5 bulbs that you just twist to remove. I used needle nose pliers.
The new bulbs are polarized so I had to put them all in, plug in the cluster and see which ones did not light up. The ones that did not light up, just had to flip them over.

No wiring to do or anything complicated. The bulbs just twist in.

I was actually surprised myself how easy it was. And the bulbs came in like 2 days. They ship right away.

Hope this helps.

Try this. Click: 12V Car Bulbs. Then: Vehicle Bulb Finder.
Put in your year, make, model and a list will come up.
you want: Instrument General - 103. You need 5 (74-xHP)
#74-xHP LED CAR BULB Specifications

For the HVAC
Super Bright LEDs - Instrument Cluster and Gauge Backlights
The Neo Wedge Series
You need 3 of the NEOx 4mm - NOT Neo XHP

My part numbers are clear in the pix so if you get confused, just go off of them

I did mine in blue a couple years ago, the only thing I don't like is some of the needles are hard to see. I am going to change them all over to hyper white in the next month or so!!

The pictures have confused me a little. Only 5 LEDs? It looks like there are more places for lights?

Okay here are the pics and after it got darker and I saw, I'm not too happy but thankfully it's super cheap and super fast shipping. The bubls I got are all the "cool white" color and the dash lights are a nice bright white. The HVAC lights however have the blue tint that some "white" LEDs have. Soooo since it doesn't match i'm thinking of swapping them all to red, and they will match the sterio deck anyhow.

That looks great! Can't wait to do it! The A/C and heating stuff is different though, how did you do that? Did you just take it off and put the bulbs in? And could you also just explain which bulbs go where? Since there are 5 of one and 3 of the other do the 5 all go in the instrumental panel? Thanks!

Give me a sec and i'll edit the pic the poster put on to point the bulbs out for ya

The 5 bubls go in the insturment panel and the 3 go in the HVAC one. And yes it's plug and play with the bubls, the only thing is that they are polarized so you plug them in and turn them on before you button it all back up cause you'll likely have to turn a few around to get them to work.

Here are the edited pics with the bulb locations circled for ya. Don't be afraid of this mod at all, it is soooo easy once you get started. After doing it once, now I can swap to another color in probably 20 min. tops.

Look up at the top of my post and I have the part numbers and all. Its just 5 bulbs and you can pick from several colors.

That red looks really good. I chose the blue because my rig is black and all of my accessories are blue. It is a little hard to see the fuel needle ate night, but its a trade off.

Just remember that they are polarized so if they all don't light up, that means those are in upside down.
