TJ Door Removal Problem

I bought an 06 TJ Unlimited last spring with 21000 miles on it. I never got the doors off last summer since I discovered my as yet unused Sunrider was missing the windows... Anyway, I bought a new Supertop NX and now I'm game to get the top off but I can't get the doors off. I took the nuts off so shouldn't this just lift off? I'm one to ask before I get a hammer. Am I missing something? Are they just corroded and stuck? If so, what would be good to loosen, WD?

I just want to make sure I'm not going to screw something up. Stupid is expensive.

Thanks for the help.

Just spray some wd-40 and swing the door back and forth and pull up at the same time

I had a little trouble on the passenger side, just when I almost gave up, two more swings and it popped out.Whew!! Be patient, also others mentioned using a 2x4 under the door to pry up on. good luck and post your doorless Jeep pic..

Thanks, gents. I'll give it a shot. Next thing on the agenda is to get the post count up so I can try to sell the Sunrider in the classifieds.

If you have a floor jack or a bottle jack put a 2x4 on it and jack up near the hinge side of the door after spraying some WD or PB blaster on the hinges. Be sure to wrap a rag around the 2x4 where it makes contact with the door. It might jack up the whole Jeep a little but the door will slide off eventually.

Spray with the PB Blaster while swinging the door back and forth. roll down the window, reach through and grab the door strap. Have the door open to about a 90* angle and gently lift. Be careful though, if using too much force you will find yourself on the ground or your door flying through the air when it finally lets go. Before replacing the door spray the hinge again to make sure that they will come off easily the next time.

Having the same problem with my doors. Think I'm going to try the 2x4 an jack trick. I've been doing pb blaster for a week or so. If you finally get it off let me know how!

Good luck,
-Murphy

becareful they are kinda awkward and alittle heavy. so use two people if your prying up on it one crash on the ground would cost you a ton.. just my opinion

See there is a piece of rubber like plastic that it sets in and it will bond to it. get two people on prying up on it and one holding it and it will come off.

I'm really not that patient. When I bought mine I used a BFH and took a couple good swings followed by some delicate taps. I used cardboard to protect the actual body. I don't think the PO ever took them off. Now when I wash it I just spray PB like its regular maintenance!

Got it. They finally came out. They had a bit of drag but they made it by hand. I wasn't in love with the jack idea. I have this theory, it's called God Hates Me, and that was just screaming for something to go wrong.

Hey, you guys mentioned shooting it regularly with WD, but what about grease? I have a Lubriplate grease that's got some water resistance that I use on my M14. Anybody ever do that? Thoughts?

Used a 2x4 to get mine off last summer. They have never been removed and mine is an 03. Be careful if you pry it yourself, mine had so much force when I popped it up that the door catapulted a few feet away and I almost fell on my ass.

EDIT: Whoops, didnt read that you got it off. Id use the grease if you got it. Ive heard of people using motor oil too.

I use a dowel and grease up the inside of the hinge with red grease from my gun.

Glad you got it. And if you think that the God Hates Me idea is bad, you should see how much Murphy's law follows Murphy. Maybe I will be staying away from the jack idea after all. I don't want my doors rocketing across the street when they break loose.

Have fun going doorless!
-Murphy
