tj fold up seats

97 sport

My friend has a 99 with the passenger seat that folds to the dash to access the back seat. Mine doesn't. Was it an option or an addition later? also is their kit to install one?

thanks

I got a '97 and it does it... there should be a little looped tab on the right side of the seat near the door... pull on that really hard twords the windshield.

I don't think it was an option, but I could be wrong.

As far as I am aware, all Wranglers should do that.

My YJ couldn't do it on the drivers side anyway. The steering wheel would be in the way.

mines also both sides.. gota pull the seat forlard and then grab on to the bottom metal bracket and pull forward.. it should fold nicely by the dash.

On 97's the passenger should work, if it doesn't, the cable from the back of the chair to the tilt mechanism is likely broken. The link has already been posted to 4x4xplor.com

The driver seat is slide only, BUT you can swap out the track for a 98 or newer (I think up to 2000 or whenever they changed the seat design) and get the tilt feature. This is a great feature when the top or doors are off. It can help keep water from pooling when it rains.

Anybody got a 98 or newer driver side seat track I could have/buy?

I think some of yall are confusing the seat on the passengers side having the ability to raise up off its base to the dash -vs- the seat folding by manipulating that little lever on back of the seat.

The passenger seat in the 06 lifts up because the jack is under there. The driver side slides forward but doesn't lift up.

Mine's a 2000 Sport, both seats lift forward to the dash/steering wheel. Wide metal lever midways under the seats on rt sides close to rails. push lever down twords floor, reach around to back of seat, lift seat forward.

Both seats fold forward & recline but neither one of my seats slide forward or back (rusty seat rails). but it's ok with me 'cause the driver's seat is exactly where it needs to be for me. & keeps the wife from moving it.

I have an '04 sport and I think only my passenger seat slides forward? Now that I think of it the guy I bought it from told me that only the passenger slid forward but i haven't actually tried it myself. Hmm...

Weird, I have a 1999 and my driver seat tilts then folds forward towards the steering wheel. My passenger seat, the rear lever only makes it fold forward, I have to pull the bar to move it up but it doesn't tilt.

passenger on my 98 does-drivers should but broke cable. didn't see a manual release for it but i can reach under, feel around and find the release. someone said $60 for the cable-i think not-i'll live with it. also won't mess up the seat adjustment-if you get in the back, you use the passenger side
