On 97's the passenger should work, if it doesn't, the cable from the back of the chair to the tilt mechanism is likely broken. The link has already been posted to 4x4xplor.com
The driver seat is slide only, BUT you can swap out the track for a 98 or newer (I think up to 2000 or whenever they changed the seat design) and get the tilt feature. This is a great feature when the top or doors are off. It can help keep water from pooling when it rains.
Anybody got a 98 or newer driver side seat track I could have/buy?
Mine's a 2000 Sport, both seats lift forward to the dash/steering wheel. Wide metal lever midways under the seats on rt sides close to rails. push lever down twords floor, reach around to back of seat, lift seat forward.
Both seats fold forward & recline but neither one of my seats slide forward or back (rusty seat rails). but it's ok with me 'cause the driver's seat is exactly where it needs to be for me. & keeps the wife from moving it.
I have an '04 sport and I think only my passenger seat slides forward? Now that I think of it the guy I bought it from told me that only the passenger slid forward but i haven't actually tried it myself. Hmm...
Weird, I have a 1999 and my driver seat tilts then folds forward towards the steering wheel. My passenger seat, the rear lever only makes it fold forward, I have to pull the bar to move it up but it doesn't tilt.

passenger on my 98 does-drivers should but broke cable. didn't see a manual release for it but i can reach under, feel around and find the release. someone said $60 for the cable-i think not-i'll live with it. also won't mess up the seat adjustment-if you get in the back, you use the passenger side
