TJ Front Drive Shaft

What can you guys tell me about the Cardin (sp) joint? Do I fix it, have it repaired at a shop, buy a used front drive shaft?

My front drive shaft had play in the joint. When slowing down you could here it do "clunk, clunk, clunk " as I came to a stop. One of the ujoints in the double Cardin joint was loose. They just replaced those ujoints and all was good. No real need to totally replace the whole driveshaft

It is relatively easy to do yourself, if you have a modest selection of tools. If not, with 8 bolts removed, you could remove your d drive shaft and drive it to a shop to be rebuilt. mark its orientation on both mounting brackets and the driveshaft itself with a thick marker.

I'm dropping mine off at the local driveshaft shop next monday. Going to have all three done while its in there.

I normally would take the time to dive in and teach myself but I don't have time for that right now. TJ needs to be up and running in a week or so for RC.

x2, Stu's site will walk you through the process with ease. Not a difficult job . My advice is to use Spicer u-joints and centering kit.

X2, and use Spicer's 5-1310x u-joints which are a stronger/more durable upgrade over the Spicer joints the factory installs.
