Exclamation TJ lift

I just put on a 2 inch spacer lift on my 04 wrangler. the mechanic who put it in said i need stabilizer bar link extensions. Is this different then a sway bar extension, because that is all i could find online. Also, i am getting some driveline vibrations, and i dont mind them, but what i want to know is if it is bad for the jeep and do i have to fix it? .....

Sway bar extensions are what he is refering too and yes you should try and get rid of the vibes, they will cause premature wear on the driveline components.

The best thing for the sway bar is to get the JKS Quick Disconnects for the 2 inch or more lift. This way you can adjust them so the sway bar is at the proper angle which is somewhere around 10 degrees if looking at it from the side. As far as the vibrations, you can lower the transfer case an inch or so which puts the drive line back in a better angle. Or you can get a 1 inch motor mount lift and leave the transfer case where it should be. It seems dumb to raise the Jeep only to lower the center belly part of it. If you go the motor mount lift you will have to altar the fan shroud or you could then add the 1 inch body lift and do it all at once and not mess with the shroud. I am not sure what your intentions are with the Jeep or what tires you are running but these are a couple of options and I hope it is not too confusing. It just never ends with Jeeps.

I did ALOT of reading on this forum before I put in my 2" BB lift and not one person said anything about sway bars. All that I have seen associated with the 2" BB and driveline vibes was the possible need to add the TC drop. You can do a search and there will be endless threads on this. I think that all you need to start out with is an inch that you can acheive with longer bolts and washers as spacers. I did not have the problem, but everything I have read seems to suggest that this is all you likely will need. Hope it helps.

thanks any suggestions for a tc lowering kit....and the vibrations happen when i go into 3rd gear

I just did the finishing touch on my 2-1/2 inch lift
Things I have learned .
My lift a Rough Country 2-1/2 inch lift went on fine no problems at all . Now they sent with the lift a Transfercase drop kit . This was bolts and 1-1/4 inch spacers that we put in place . I found the 1-1/4 spacers to be way to much drop . So I bought new 2-1/4 inch bolts (6) and 40 washers and took out the 1-1/4 inch spacers . I tryed 6 washers and it run very well no vibs so I took them out and put in 5 DONE FINISH OVER . I,m happy as hell with the lift it looks good and drives fine .

could you possibly make some space by adding washers and bigger bolts? because there is not much vibrations, and its only a 2 inch lift??

You hit the nail on the head there 530. I got my lift/tires/wheels installed. Now I need a D44 axle and gears/lockers. It just never ends with Jeeps...

Yes...In fact I think that is what most people do. Just make sure you use strong bolts. I would go with a 10.9 or 12.8 grade. Good luck.

if your using washers to lower the tc.. id start out with 4.. and if you still have vibes.. keep adding 1 until it goes away..

i have 3.5'' in the front bout 2.25'' in the rear of my jeep and i have 5 washers in my tc

I installed my lift, ran into problems with my column shifter, need new tires, and then had big steering problems.

It never...ever...ends.

I still love it though.

You're under the assumption everyone knows TJ suspension geometry. I assure you thats an incorrect assumption.

You'll want to included extended sway bar links front and rear with any lift. Using the stock links with a lift will cause excessive & premature wear, and you'll bust the ball joint in half...which is a crap design anyway.

do i need sway bar extensions in the front and back. And as for the transfer case drop, what skid plate do i lower to dop the T/C. The big main one, or the little skid plate attached to the end of the tranny?

the big main one.. should only be 6 bolts..

and sway bar extensions are recommended.. discos for the front would be a plus

I did the 2" BB and dropped my TC by using (5) galvanized washers on each new bolt. I used grade 8 bolts that I bought, along with the washers, at Lowe's. No vibrations and I have cruised at 70 mph.

Just to let everyone know: 10.9 & 12.8 are metric bolt grades. Standard Grade 8 bolts will do just fine. If you need more info follow the link, it explains all the fastener tech you will need to know.RIGID STEEL OFFROAD :: View topic - Fastner Tech- Use the right Nuts and Bolts

That 10 Degrees is that up or down ?? It would make a big difference .

How do i know how long the bolts have to be??
