TJ On A Budget!

Being only 17, and very busy with school and all the misc. activities that accompany it, I don't have a job right now. So obviously my budget is low, and can't buy the very expensive things on my wish list. This brings me to the question, what are some easy diy things that I could do to to freshen up my TJ's looks. I've already repainted my faded fender flares and bumper caps, but I'm lookin' for a little more.

Also, can you put D-Rings on the stock bumpers?

Thanks!

You can rhino line it for pretty cheap, lookin at that myself.

If you want bigger tires you can look around on craigslist or hook up with your local jeep club. It seems like around here I can get something slightly used at a VERY good price, if not nearly free.

Well I think the lift and larger tires may come later. I'm running on 31.5 inch tires, which is the largest my 2001 TJ can run stock. I might start looking around here though. Craigslist is a site I frequent lol, too much sometimes.

You might consider some cheaper corner armor. I had a bit of body damage I wanted to cover up, the bushwacker corners give a meaner look than stock.

I've considered that, sweet Jeep btw. Black corner armor would help add to my orange/black look anyway.

Following me here eh? Lol. It's either Gun Metal or Black, and I think Black may have won me over... It just matches the other black things, like the fender flares and all that.

Even if everything else is black, you have to break it up a bit... so the wheels don't just blend in with the tires. Black wheels are so played out. Be different in a world of sheep!

Plus it's just paint... you can paint over them again if you don't like the look.

Lol true, but I don't have all the time in the world. Well I do right now, but in a few weeks all my time goes away... I may get a set of these rims, maybe just 2-3 and practice on them and see what I like before I go into this head first.

Yeah I replaced all the stock speaker with sony xplods, and I have 1 10" sub in the back. I'll have 2 by the end of it, and I'm looking around for amps right now.

some uber-cheap things I've done and like the results:

take the carpet out
use rattlecan bedliner inside the tub.
trim the fenders
take off the rollbar padding
lose the bumper caps
remove the side roll bars
ammo can under the hood
tow hooks on the stock bumper

the possibilities are senseless!!

Yeah a pic on the ammo can under the hood would be nice. Also, no one really answered my question on D-Rings or Tow Hooks on the stock bumper lol.

I'm also in high school, are u a rising senior by any chance? Anyway, I knew i wanted a wrangler from the day I was born so I saved up pretty much my whole childhood for it and I got a 4" lift and 33's which I think is the best thing you can do to a wrangler is lift it so i'd say save up for a lift.

Yeah, I'm going to be a Senior. And I found a 2.75" lift that I may put on. I don't want to raise up to 4 just yet since I have a new set of 31" tires on. I'll lift it up all the way later on, say in college lol.

I have a dinky little 04 four banger and there was a pretty nice sized open area on the drivers side.

Ten years from now you will not remember the boomin' sound system. But you will remember the time you and your best friend got stuck and it took you hours to get loose, and the really cool view you got from the top of that mountain...

I still think the best thing to add to a budget Jeep is gas. Lots of gas.

Yea if you got new 31's on there then lifting it would be kinda dumb. But you said you have a strtaight six? I'm looking at mufflers for my 6 paricualry super 40 and 44 theyre both less than $100 can't remember the exact price though.

Yeah the lift will probably be later. I'm thinking mid college. I'll just do a full 4" lift and get some 33" tires on it.

If you're going for the orange/ black theme, why not paint your headlight bezels black?

while you're painting bezels, go ahead and paint the fenders, mine where grayish so I hit them krylon fusion paint, I also painted the lic plate holder and the milk jugs on the rear bumper, I took the ones on the front off, and I painted some grill inserts a buddy gave me, cheap ez and a good way to spend the day.
