Hey guys i hear everyone always saying the jeep tj is better then the jeep jk i know i like my ti better than my friends jk because of the older more genuine feel of the tj but can anyone give me opinions on why they think the tj is a better jeep than the jk ?
Its not about feeding the trolls im just trying to find out what it is about the tj mechanically ir physically that makes it a better car than the jk for so many ppl
There are hundreds of these threads already along with 2 door vs 4 door and auto vs manual.
Both models have their good and bad points and TJ owners will tell you the TJ is best and JK owners will tell you the JK is best. Most JK owners who used to have TJ's will tell you they'd never go back. Lots of TJ owners who used to have JKs will tell you they'll never buy another JK (until the TJ's are all rotted out and they have to). You've already decided you like the TJ best, what difference does it make what anybody else likes?
Again you dont like it dont reply im new to the jeep world and im asking oppinions why everyone says tjs over jks you should have thick skin and not let a simple question bother you buddy
Remember the 16 year old kid with the $70k budget who trolled for a couple of days about wanting to do a giant engine swap. All of the sudden he then claimed to buy a 2015 Rock Hard JKU, but refused to show pictures?
The language paths and vernacular are the exact same. Little punk
Yo. I have both a '04 TJ X and '15 JK (sport). Love both. Almost sold the TJ, but couldn't part with it. Very Spartan, but AWESOME. At least when I take the key out I don't hear it cycle down, as the software (or whatever) closes. But the JK is sooooo smooth (and quiet in comparison) and absolutely love the sun rider.
Pros and cons to both, and I totally understand, especially since I have a foot in both worlds. the TJ will always be my first "love".
Each series up the technology. And each series either benefited or was hurt by that technology. CJ/YJ were not hurt by a cloudburst if the roof was off. TJ was a bit more sensitive to water on/behind the dash but mine has never refused to run if it got wet/drowned. A JK dies if moisture enters the cab.
My son has a JKU. I have a TJR. Driving each??? I love the TJ and would never spend the extra $$$$ to get a JK/JKU. If I ever found a perfect CJ2/CJ5... that is my dream Jeep.
For so many JK/JKU buyers it is ALL about the connectivity. To me that just complicates what was the simplest most basic form of transportation which could never be stopped. A wet dash will stop a JK.

My JKR has been caught out in the rain a couple times now since I bought it, I haven't had any problems. Maybe I should start the lemon law process?? I loved my '98 TJ, but there's no way in hell I would go back to that from my new Jeep.
I'm not finding very many. This one got rained on and the radio didn't work but I get the impression it still ran. Interestingly enough there is a post (#10) about a TJ that died in the rain.
Problem with these threads is you get into a TJ thread and ask if the TJ is better and you'll have a bunch of guys nodding their heads "ohh yeah the TJ is the last real jeep" (which everyone knows was really the YJ since everything after had car-like coil springs) Ask the same question on the JK forum you'll get the same result. Fwiw I was driving a JK for over two weeks that got rained in almost everyday with no damage done..
So then you have to define two things in your opening statement. Are we to truly believe almost everyone agrees with you as you state. Or are we talking all your TJ owning friends? Or people who have never been in either? Then we have to define better. Better styling?- TJ Better off-road- Jk Better longevity- tbd but I'm going to say jk especially with the sheer magnitude of salvage parts that will be available. Tougher grill? TJ Ability to fit larger tires JK Stronger more robust suspension? Jk Comfort? Jk Power? Jk Cargo space? jk slightly, JkU immensely Simplicity? TJ Ability to fit in a parking spot? TJ I could go on and on but if you add them all up the nod goes to the JK. In your argument I think you mentioned styling and simplicity as being your main concerns. So I can see how in your mind the TJ is better. And so be it. We should all love our jeeps. I love TJ's they're jeeps.

I went with a TJ because it's a lot more basic than the JK. There are less electronic systems to mess with. I also like the smaller size. A JK is wider than my old WJ and a JKU is longer than it. I went to a wheeling event years ago on a bunch of hunting trails. TJ's and older has no issues with size. I watched a JK rip the corner off of his steel rear bumper (obviously not well made). I watched a FJ Cruiser destroy the whole driver's side of his car. Even my WJ had a tough time width wise. I had to run with my mirrors folded and I banged one of my door handles on a tree. Another plus is the 4.0. The 3.6 found in the 2012's and newer is great but that 3.8 is just plain terrible. The JK does have better axles and the 2012+ automatic is way better than the 2003-11 automatic. The JK gets 4 wheel disc brakes standard. JK's also can fit bigger tires more easily than a TJ. Both are great choices but I believe it's more of a preference thing.
I hate religion discussions but if it were me, having owned two TJs and worked on several JKs, I would go TJ every time.
In my personal experience, working on JKs compared to a TJ is like comparing being told to work on a human brain vs. a butt-simple Erector Set. I could barely get to anything on the JK, and you can't even see its engine for all the plastic making for difficult access to pretty much everything. Not to mention the JK's double-skin tub makes bolting anything on difficult at best. For example, I can drill holes in the TJ's tub and easily pass bolts through it to easily mount rocker guards. On a JK I did the same job on, it turned into a nightmare since I had to set multiple threaded inserts into the the outer skin rolleyes of the tub so the rocker guard can be bolted on. What normally takes me a couple hours on a TJ took 3X longer on the JK to get the inserts in precisely enough so the rocker bolts could be threaded into them.
Not to mention the JK's V6 sound and how it drove reminded me exactly of a minivan and driving it was about the same too. The JK is too car-like and too hard to work on or modify in my strictly personal opinion. I'm blaming the government's increased safety requirements for the JK having become more car-like but whatever the reason, it's reason enough for me to strongly prefer a TJ.
