TJ Radiator Support Rod?

New member, so I apologize if this has already been posted about. I searched the forum and can't find any info on it. I just bought a new to me TJ and the rod coming from the grill to the firewall (what I guess is the firewall) is missing on the drivers side. Is this anything you guys think is worth replacing? I hate spending another 40 bucks on something that does not serve much of a purpose. For reference, this is what's missing.

I found a single one on fleabay for 40 shipped.

If it does serve much purpose, have you guys fabbed anything up from around the house to replace them?

Thanks for all the info.

I don't know how much rigidity it adds to the grill but it would be simple to make one if you can weld. It may keep the radiator out of the fan if you have a minor front end collision.

If you have the skills to fab one up, the left and right side support rods are identical.

yeah, I'm thinking about just trying to make one out of something. Maybe some rebar with loops on the end to put bolts in. I'm sure I can find something for free lying around. Any suggestions?

I'd worry more about why it's missing than the fact that it is. There are very few good reasons for that to be gone.

I wonder if the compressor for the air lockers is in the way. I'll have to check after I get home. I can't think of any other reason that the thing would be missing though. Especially on the drivers side.

I removed the one on the pass side after I installed a York compressor for on board air, and have had no issues for the past 3 years. I would not worry about it.
