TJ Seat Compatibility

Will TJ seats bolt up to seat frames from other Wrangler models like YJ or CJ? I want to replace my seats only (not the tracks) on my 1997 TJ.

not sure on the YJ or CJ but I'm guessing no. I know on a TJ 03-06 you have to use a seat out of an 03-06 because of the mounting brackets. 97-02 you can use a seat out of any year 97-02.

a lot of times you can take the tracks of your existing seats and install them on the new seats to make them work just fine. You just need to be real careful with the seat dimensions.

The TJ floor mounting points are the same 97-06. There is a slight difference where the 97-02, 03-06 mount to the seat. I am told that there is only minor modification requirend to use a 97-02 bracket on a 03-06 seat and vise versa.

Yes. I would be using the tracks from my Jeep, just replacing the seat portion, as mine are torn.

Yes the brackets are totally different per seat. You cannot bolt up an 02 bracket to an 06 mounting position but you can slightly modify the brackets if you want to drill out new holes in the tub. I am not sure about an 06 seat mounting to an 02 bracket. I was told the 03-06 seat latches were moved from where the older seats had them.

Is your seat cover just torn? The rear seat cover can be removed and replaced with either aftermarket or factory.
