Tj soft top

Hey hows it goin, i just bought my first wrangler this past week. I have a 2001 wrangler 4 cyl. 5spd. of cousre the dealer i got it from is jerkin me around say in they will not do anything about the soft top. The jeep has a best top soft top, exact model im not sure. The top seems very tight, almost seems to small. my other issue is that i have no clue as to whether or not this top is supposed to retract into back area or if the whole thing has to come off. take it easy on me, im a low rider guy movin onto the off road scene. so im new to all this stuff. any info and or advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Wrangler Forum

If you can post a pic it will be helpful. Was the top on the Jeep when you bought it? What causes you to think that it is too small? If it has a frame then you should be able to lower it without removing it. I'm not sure about the frameless trektops though.

i will try to post pics later after work. its seem s to small or tight cause it took two people to tuck the clips on the passenger side of the top. it does have a frame, but ill be damned if i can figure out how it folds down. am i supposed to undo to the pieces where the top wraps around the frame?

Bestop manufactured the OEM top and they make replacemet fabric for the OEM frame. Bestop also sells their own frame and fabric called a Supertop. Both can be folded down but thet way to do so differs if it is the OEM or a Supertop (the above link is for the OEM) Post a picture and we can tell you which it is. (The OEM side window has a slash of fabric across the window. The Supertop window is solid.)

yv4me, thank you for the link that helps alot. i was doing it all backwards. the zipper is broke on one of the rear sides, so since i just bought this im gonna wait til the dealer decides if they are gonna replace it for me then give it a try to get the top down. again thank you for the info. ill be sure to let ya know how it worked.

Soft tops are very difficult to raise/lower in cold temps. Warmer temps make them more stretchy.... This is probably contributing to your difficulties. Especially attaching the drip rails....

You had a difficult time with those clips because it's 47* right now in Waterloo, NY. The soft top shrinks, and those clips are a PAIN almost all the time. I keep alligator grips on me that are wrapped in duct tape to prevent it from ripping the top. Welcome to the forum!

it does zip off you just pull both zippers to the left.

not the window zipper-on the inside of the top, about the middle of the rear verticle part of the top(soft top piece between the side and rear windows) i have a zipper running up/dn on both sides(inside)-have no idea what they are for

on mine if both zippers are on the left side the window comes out-normal use when you install the window-both zippers are on the left-zip 1 to install(so 1 on each side-now can unzip each side to roll up) to remove window unzip right side 1 to left

a pic would help I guess.
the rear side windows zip off. the back window can be zipped from the inside too if you have the zipper loops to grab.
