TJ soft top bolted on?

So I bought my TJ in Jan. The header latches were bolted on (pictured) I bought replacement latches for a TJ (also pictured) and they do not fit the header bar. I drilled 2 holes to make the fit, but when I clamped them down the did not come close to making a seal.

I'm starting to think that it's the header bar and not the latches that are not the problem. Before I spend some more money on a new header bar, can anyone tell me if the those are tj latches.

Also can you think of any possible scenario in which you would bolt down your header bar?

So your TJ latches look different than that? The ones I've seen look similar.

That's what I don't get. I don't think it's an after market top. It says Mopar on it. Here are some pictures of the top. Doesn't look aftermarket, right?

I don't know much about the tops but I'm pretty sure mines stock. The frame of the soft top is a little different, there are 2 braces that attach to brackets on the side bars of the roll cage. Where as yours looks like its attached right to the tub?

So if this in fact an aftermarket top, will a factory header bar fit?
That way I won't have to fool around with unbolting the latches every time I go naked.

Ah ha .... You do have an aftermarket top but with a mopar header, u can tell by the side bow system they both are different

The factory top has door surrounds and the Support bar on the side mounts to the roll bar instead of a full frame support the after market system it uses. I'm not sure about how the header works and how the aftermarket top seals to the front. Mine presses in like the bottom of your windows do on yours ( mines aftermarket too)

i dont think your top is factory because it looks nothing like mine but then again when i bought mine i could have an aftermarket. but your hinges look the same as mine for the front are you sure you have the top down tight enough. cuz i spent about 30 mins trying to get my top on just right so my hinges would fit

Seems yours is stock, both the headers are similar in how they mount to the top of the window, cause of the two slots. how does the factory top separate from the front when you pull it down? I believe they work the same but he/she has mixed up or had mismatched parts when installing.

Great news! So did the Bestop come with a header bar, or did you use the factory header like mine?

Thanks to everyone who replied.

So I just read the instructions on the Bestop Supertop, and it looks like I don't need to unbolt it to fold down top. I just have to loosen it and pull out the plastic strip. Sounds easy enough.

Can't speak with certainty as for the entire header bar-but the latches are the same as the one that came with bikini top.

I have found that header bar seals tighter than my factory soft-top, and my sunrider/half-top. And yes it's easier to loosen up the rest of the top and just pull it from the slot-so can be topless faster. I usually don't unbolt it till I have to put big top back on-but won't be doing that anymore as I have the halftop now.

Good Luck!!
