soap and water, scuff them, paint them. (make sure nobody plays a trick on you like when you go grab a smoke and come back to paint and your buddy misted black magic tire wet on them, cuz that made a friggin mess)

I did this w/ mine the other day, turned out pretty good, although I didn't get them all in one shot. It does seem to look better in the long run if you do them on a warmer day, as the first one, done in about 35 degree weather, looks kinda splotchy.

Also, I piece of advise, don't let the metal tip of the gun touch the flare, it'll carve nifty little grooves, don't bother to ask how I know!

Just an update. I used the heat gun back in February and they still look good. I maybe hit them again now that it has warmed up and see if I can get a more even finish. First time left a little bit of blotchy look, not bad but still there.
