I have a 2000 TJ. The fender flares are stock but are starting to really fad. The black on the rest of the Jeep (hard top, mirrors, steps) are fine. Only the fender flares are grayish now. Is there anything I can put on them besides repainting them? Maybe something I can wipe that will darken them up. Thanks
soap and water, scuff them, paint them. (make sure nobody plays a trick on you like when you go grab a smoke and come back to paint and your buddy misted black magic tire wet on them, cuz that made a friggin mess)
I did this w/ mine the other day, turned out pretty good, although I didn't get them all in one shot. It does seem to look better in the long run if you do them on a warmer day, as the first one, done in about 35 degree weather, looks kinda splotchy.
Also, I piece of advise, don't let the metal tip of the gun touch the flare, it'll carve nifty little grooves, don't bother to ask how I know! :banghead:
Just an update. I used the heat gun back in February and they still look good. I maybe hit them again now that it has warmed up and see if I can get a more even finish. First time left a little bit of blotchy look, not bad but still there.
