Clock springs are another item that stays backordered, I had to wait a week for Chrysler to get more in to their dealers. (Parts manager said entire network of dealers had backorders on that part) Looking forward to replacing my switch when (not if) it goes out! If every thing is working on the Jeep, I get worried!

The clock spring is basically a wire(s) that are wound like a spring that allows power to be feed to the air bag, horn and cruise control switches(if equipt) on the steering wheel. It winds and unwinds as you turn the steering wheel. Other manufactures use a set of contacts that rub on a conductive ring accomplishing the same thing. A bad clockspring can cause the horn, cruise control or air bag not to work, it also can cause rough engine idle and a throttle position sensor voltage high code.

This pictorial saved me no less than $175, I'm sure. In curiosity, I called the local dealership.. they wanted $147 in labor, plus parts. Picked up the left multifunction switch at a local auto parts store for $60 and had it installed in an hour - that long only because the wiring harness on the right multifunction wouldn't come unstuck. Without this walkthrough, I'd have spent whatever the dealership charged. Thank you, Hardermods!
