Tj vs JK's, TJ wins

Went out yesterday in my TJ with 3 4 door JK Rubicons, all lifted with 35's. My TJ is a 2000 with 4" lift, 33" Duratracs and the front disconnected, thats it no locks, stock axles, 3:07's, AT, I6. We went on some pretty tough trails up in Big Bear CA (Holcomb Valley trail Black diamond) I only went because I knew these guy's could get met out if I got suck. So at the first rock garden we get to (never thought I would get through it) 2 of the JK's get stuck, and to my complete amazement I went right through. Same scenario the rest of the day. Now on to the upgrades so I don't woory the whole day about something breaking.

I got one thing out that story, your friends don't know how to drive. Not saying that they should be "out wheeling" you all day, but for them to keep getting stuck and you never did... That shows that either you are a far superior driver or they just plain suck.

Everyone always gets on these "who's rig is better"..."TJ's are better than JK's" bandwagons, when in reality 90% of it comes down to the driver and his ability to put the vehicle where he wants it to go and make it through.

I am the exception to this rule. I am a horrible driver but my rig makes me look good.

I have to agree...I am pretty newb at wheeling...and have watched a lot of "pro's" it seems to be a lot about what line you take and how you take it...and not as much about the equipment (not saying that it doesn't help though) but getting stuck is how you learn...so you can basically count on my JK being stuck!

I'm not a JK fan (after having worked on a friend's all weekend) but I'm betting the biggest reason the JKs had problems was they were all 4-door models with the resulting significantly longer wheelbase. The more uneven/rocky the trail, the more advantage a short wheelbase 2-door Wranglers has.

I'm gonna disagree even though i own a 99 tj (4 cyl though )
Was at the local hidden offroad spot and 2 JKs were there, one four door the other a rubicon.. They were wasted going up hills going like 65 but nonetheless their jeeps didnt die and i respect that haha.

haha my bad.. i typed that out without thinking 100%..
What i was trying to say is that they were jumping their jeeps, hitting hills going 50+, and all around abusing their jeeps for 12+ hours and when they left everything sounded and looked unphased. Giving their JKs credit for that.

Wheelbase and the driver make the biggest differences. Two weekends ago I was with a group, there were 3 or 4 4 doors on 35s. There were technical rocky points, they never got stuck but they were def. having to give it gas at points and force their way up. When I went it was like butter and never hesitated.

We also ran with a lady that weekend who had a 2010 Forerunner that was heavily modified (like over 20 grand in mods, according to here its the most heavily modified in the country) and a tad longer than the 4 doors. She drove that thing like a pro and had no troubles. She was squeezing that thing through trees even I had to be careful with. Not a scratch on her paint.
