I picked up my new 2000 TJ Sport it only has 38k miles! Dropped it off at the shop to have a few things done. It rained like a typhoon for 45 minutes the next day. The carpet under the driver & passenger floor mats were drenched. I've seen comments about the AC & the floor plugs. The problem is the jeep wasn't moving. It's got a full soft-top no leaks I can see (only a year old). Has 1/2 doors with sliding glass windows securely closed. The car wasn't moving nor did it for a few days so it didn't splash up from underneath. Thoughts?
Just cleaned my cowl yesterday... After a bad down pour I would get 2" of water on my passenger side.. When I took off the cowl cover off, the hole where the water drains had dirt caked on it .. Cleaned it off..all done. Only problem I ran across was I noticed 2 wiper linkage bushings fell off.. And I can't find them anywhere to buy.
More than likely it's from the upper windows. Those slider windows are known to leak due to the cheap seals and plastic frame(Bestop). I love the slider windows but had to Monstalined the tub to make that combo work.
Half doors uppers with week seals will sometime let water in, same for the lowers. Instead of keeping the water out, it will act like a guide and direct it inside and follow along to where it makes it to the floor.
Sometimes the sliding glass will have a leak when dirt & mud builds up in the channel and blocks the drip hole and it will leak down the inside of the door to the floor.
I just went through this...
Check the seal between the window and the door. For me, water would run off the top, down the seam and hit the seal near the hinge. From there it would run in by the top of the dash and down the side wall (On the driver side).
For the passenger side, even after I cleaned the cowl, it was running down the firewall and into the AC blower. I dumped some RTV on the old styrofoam seal, and that fixed it for me. Basically RTV everything under the hood.
