to muffle or not to muffle...

So i bent my exhaust a few months back and i havent gotten around to fixing it. I am looking to upgrade my muffler in the process. I went into a local 4x4 store near my home and asked what to do, the man suggested just to leave the exhaust off and run straigt pipes. My theory though is i have the 2.5 and i think it will sound like shit and only end with a bunch of noise violations. any one who has done this or has other suggestions i would love to hear back.

cheapest route would be a "turbo" muffler from local parts house.
Other route would be flowmaster, borla, or some other name brand from
a mail order place like www.jegs.com or
www.summitracing.com

you're right, it would sound like s**t with straight pipes, not to mention with straight pipes you will probably lose some useable power. I say "useable" because when you reduce back pressure that much it tends to move your peak power output higher in the rpm range.
