To Powder Coat or not?

I just got some Under Cover Fab skids for my tcase and tranny/engine. They come bare so I need to finish them.

Powder coating seems to be harder than any rattle can paint. Therefore should last longer and look good longer. I got a local quote for $155, including a clear coat (powder coating as well).

Since they're skids they don't need to look great. I figure any finish will scratch off when smashing against rocks.

What do you guys think?

I think powdercoating skid plates is ridiculous if nothing else under your vehicle is coated that way. That price is not bad if it encludes blasting.

Rattle can it. Take your time and do a nice job and itll look fine...plus I am sure you will eventually have to crawl under in the future to hit all of your scrapes, cuts, and gouges with paint again anyways. IMO...155 bucks is a lot of money for "paint" especially on a part that no one can even see anyways.

Rocks don't care how hard the coating is. It's all coming off. Rattle can. Powdercoating ANYTHING that is there to protect the vehicle is absolutely stupid.

Rustoleum Hammered black on my UCF skid. Works good for frame and axle touch ups too.

Thanks guys. I believe whatever it's coated with will scrape off. I guess the most important thing is how easy it is to touch up. Rattle can paint sounds like the winner. I'll look into Rustoleum Hammered black.
