This managed to piss me off like no other and I did three wheel bearings today...

Yeah those pissed me off too. I took it off to clean it up and couldn't get it reinserted. I need to get a new one yet because I cracked mine too lol. But when you put them back in there is some trick that makes it really easy. Eff I can't remember what it is now. I <i>think</i> you put the rubber grommet it first then the L-joint. :shrug:

Yeah I put it in first then the elbow, man do my thumbs hurt...

Yup they suck. I got lucky and read about them breaking easy on here before I removed mine...had new ones on standby. One shattered like yours and one came out whole. That's with the valve cover off the motor so both would have broke if I was leaning over fenders.
