Too good to be true?

Hey guys, well it so happens my mother was up at our vacation place in new hampshire and she saw a wrangler that she put a down payment on. It is a 2000 Wrangler Sport grey with a black hardtop. BFG all terrains. And it has around 66000 miles. There asking somewhere in the range of 8300 to 8600. My mother's boyfriend listened to it and drove it ( 5 speed), and he said it sounded very very smooth. Now heres the question. Is there anyway I could have stumbled on a good deal or is it too good to be true.

P.S. its from a dealership not a private party

Hell check it over and go with it. Jeeps are very simple to tell if something is f'd up on them. I'd definitely run it thru the full range of 4wd hi and lo to make sure the TCase is good. Drive it at highway speeds to make sure that there are no ungodly vibes or death wobble. Other than that if it drives smooth than it more than likely is smooth. Sometimes you just stumble on a deal.

On a side note a friend of mine bought an 00 4.0 a couple years ago for like 10k and he sold it for 10500 a few months ago. So what you have found doesn't sound like such a far fetched price to be getting.

Hey guys, I just called up there and talked to the guy who showed it to my mother. I asked for the VIN so i could run a carfax and he offered to take my fax number and he'd run it and send it over right now.. Maybe it is a good deal?

Definitely sounds like an honest type fella in my books. Carfax are important, but remember that they don't always hold every piece of info on a vehicle.

The deals are out there, wranglers are a limited market, one used car lot near me has had several for quite a while as we had a light winter here and none of the 4x4's moved.
I picked up two 97's 3 years ago, one for $3k and the other for $4K, both needed new soft tops and that was pretty much it. I did not buy either in PA, one was from NJ and the other was from CT, PA prices for some reason are tied to the gold market... If you are in the right place at the right time you never know.

Ok. I just received the carfax. It all checks out perfectly EXCEPT, on 6/6/06, there was an accident reported involving a "front impact with another vehicle." does that definitely mean this is junk, or could it have been not too severe that it doesnt effect anything? What would you guys say.

My daughter T boned a Saturn that made a left oncoming turn in front of her. She was doing 40 and never even got her foot off the gas. Drove the saturn 40ft sideways into a telephone pole and punched in the passenger side doors, popped every airbag in the saturn and gave the guy in the passenger side seat 7 slot nitmares. The saturn had a crack running from the passenger side to the drivers side on the roof so she effectively broke it almost in half.
Damage to TJ, bent Warn front bumper, bent passenger fender from the A pillar on the saturn, two broken marker lights and a cracked windshield from a text book that was on the dash. Oh, the radiator did develop a leak between the core and top tank about a month or so later. That was it, TJ's and YJ's are tough.

What I'm saying is it would have to be a really really bad one to total a TJ physically, if it was just a straight up plowed into someone I doubt it took more than 50 bolts, new sheetmetal and paint plus lights maybe..... if you really worried take it to a body shop/frame shop.

Im usually suspicious of front impacts, but itll give ya a good reason to mod it. Try to get up there and drive it, thats what Id do.

That is a good deal. It's not a steal or anything, but it is a solid deal. It all depends on what they got it for. If they only gave someone 5k for it on a trade, then they still make money. Plus if it's been sitting on the lot for a while, they might just be looking to move it out to make room for other inventory. There are a bunch of reason why they would sell it at that price that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad jeep.

I bought a 03 with 24k for $9000. They just wanted to move some inventory. An older cpl had it and towed it behind a motorhome for about 3 months and decided they wanted something for economical for towing. I lucked out b/c in the owners manual it had his name and phone number so I gave it a call before I purchased it. Real nice guy

So offer them 7k or 7500 for it. If they really want to get rid of it then they will deal with you. Use the Carfax to your advantage if you can.
