Top Speeds?

I just got my fastest speeding ticket ever, and the first one in my wrangler... 90mph. The cop walked up to me with an absolutely horrified look on his face.

I told him "This car has never gone that fast!" didn't help my case...

I drive an automatic, but I can view my gear on my Superchips display, and i actually have pretty good control over the gear shift for an auto. So I was in overdrive doing about 50, said "fuzzy bunny it," got into third and she sheld the gear/ pulled me HARD all the way up to 90 and I could have kept going... I have had my TJ with the superchip and throttle body for 12,000 miles... My car has never pulled like this!!

I'm not even that bummed about the speeding ticket! Superchips says it will "top out" at 112 MPH, or maybe thats just because its a chrystler, but regardless, I've held my foot straight down, 30-98 and it did not pull like this.

Does anyone else have any experiences similar? maybe without the cop. I really thought I was gonna hit 100 today :(

i know there are PLENTY of faster wranglers out there... I'm wondering how fast. Got tired of looking at the same ones on Youtube. I don't really use forums much because of the stupid crowd mentalities usually. And you would probably get roasted for even saying that by your logic. Whaatever bring on the hate.

Soooo are you going to mention WHAT chip you used? I always ran a SUPER chip in my diesel truck which was a HUGE improvement, but was told its a waist of money for my jeep. Leans um out and can damage the engine/trans with their gearing. Even in my truck i was careful to run Mobile 1 and change it religiously. So i went with a change in intake and throttle body in stead. I dont have a problem keeping up with traffic on any hwy. That may depend on gearing and tires you are running. I wouldnt mind having a BUMP in power..... but im not sure id want to give up a trans to do it.

Jeeps are meant to crawl over/around/through anything....why waste time driving unsafe speeds in the first place? Unless, of course, you are over-compensating for certain, ahhh...other inabilities? Or deficiencies?

You know they have things that can help you right? Implants...enlargement pumps...viagra....ya might wanna look into them!

LoL

Your top speed is all about your ability as a driver, then about the mechanical limits of the vehicle. Do what you want, no one should care, and if you can't handle it, you die, and that's not a big deal either.

Finding the max is a normal thing to do when your a kid, if you find you like speed perhaps a Jeep should be a 2nd vehicle. Just keep in mind the person you kill at the limit of your abilities may not be you.

Fastest "legal" speed I've ran all day. This was in Texas where the highways open up to 75 consistantly and sometimes 80 on the toll roads (don't have a picture of me doing 80 on the Austin toll road). And I have a 2.5L 4 banger that runs like this all day easily. It does have 4.11 gears though on 32's which helps a lot, but I cruise around in 5th gear maintaining 75 easy and not having to downshift at all. When I go through the mountains in Tennessee near Chattanooga it actually LOVES those hills and I run in 5th up the mountains with no lugging or power loss. Now on the little bitty "hills" here in Missouri, it looses a LOT of power on those simple hills and I'm shifting to 4th if I want to keep my speed up. Go figure, must be something to the oxygen/fuel mixture set for high altitude that I've never taken the time to figure out since I travel so far so often and change altitude a LOT. Helps me get better gas mileage through the mountains to the east coast.

I have gone well over 100 in my other cars over the years, but something about my Jeep just makes me want to go slow and relax.

I think the fastest I have hit was about 75-80 once or twice on the freeway. It just doesn't feel right or even safe to go that fast in a Wrangler.

Same here. I have a few other cars that are purpose built to go fast. When I drive the jeep it just feels more comfortable driving slower. Nothing wrong with putting your foot in it to get around someone, it just feels "right" to keep it slower.

I have taken many different vehicles over the 100 mark, but not the jeep. Just feel that the nature of the jeep is to kick back, relax, and enjoy the scenery. I bought it for fun, made modifications for fun and will drive it for fun. Just my two cents on my Jeep. Thanks.

Just sold my 300 srt8 to buy the jeep. But I took a pic of me doing 170 mph. With no seat belt.. don't give 2 shtz. It had intake n exhaust... thing was beyond wicked. Loved killing thoes weak ass 6.0l gto,s driving around everywhere.. murdered a heavy modded one 3 times on the highway.. guy never looked over to nod or nuthin.. come on man that cost me like 5 gallons of 93.... in the jeep.. I ran it up once to hit the lame ass speed limiter. But it really does feel alot better to cruise at a lower speed in it.. really does.

Sold my cherry 73 Stingray Vette last year. It was a money pit just like this old 87 YJ project is going to be. Wifey thot the money hemorrhage for vehicles was over :). Sorry, honey, ol' Pops just slowing down the speeds a little bit! Lol

My Jeep can do 90mph, but I seldom go as fast as 75mph. I feel relatively secure at that speed while cruising, but I am well aware if I have to do any sudden and severe maneuvering I would be exceeding the vehicle's abilities and would be risking my life. I have kids, so I do not take unnecessary risks. What I love is when some people try to equate speed and driving skills. The greatest skill a driver can have is knowing his vehicle's limitations. 90mph is exceeding the Wrangler's abilities.
