Calling out all Jeep owners in the Wisconsin area - FYI it's summer -
Take your tops off and turn your air conditioning off or please just buy a Cherokee, it's a waste of a Wrangler...
I used to wave to all Wranglers but I just can't when I have everything off and another Wrangler passes me with everything on with the air on to boot...
It's 85 degrees with no chance of rain... Am I in the wrong not to wave???

not everyone has the resources to take the top off fyi like me i dont have a garage or anyone availble to help me take the top off and cant setup a winch anywhere to use that to take top off, so i usually just do freedom pannels and havent gotten mirrors yet to do doors

My sentiments exactly.

I do have a place to store my hardtop & doors.
But not everyone else does.

Deciding on whether or not to wave to another jeeper, not knowing the other person's situation, (they don't have a garage, or they live in an apartment, etc) ...

That's like seeing a car with a handicap sticker park in a handicap parking space, & the driver gets out, & looks fine.

We can assume that this is a person abusing that HC sticker. But the driver might have an ailment that can't be noticed just by sight.

We shouldn't be quick to judge.
We are all part of a "tribe", for lack of a better word.

The way I see it, I like running my jeep doorless & topless. But that's just me.

However you want to drive your jeep, I won't be the least bit embarrassed to have you right along side of me.

The more jeeps, the better.

Not in that area but I'm guilty. Any chance I get it ripping it down and drivin no doors or top. BUT. My wife is kinda a B and hates wind in her hair... and hates heat. And summer in general. So when she's with me... its all closed up with ac on and me dieing a bit inside... when I pass another tj all opened up I just feel like a jack ass and want to backhand my 100lb wife as hard as I can..... but I resist.. swallow my pride and jeep on.

I have a '78 CJ5 at home with no top and doors... plus plenty of times the windshield is even down when I'm driving around town. So yeah... my DD JK has the hard top in place most times and yup... sometimes the ac is on. So lets see here, going by your logic... if I'm driving my CJ with the windshield down and here you are coming the other way with your windshield up I'm not supposed to wave because you're a douche for not having yours down? Lol, you have way too much time on your hands if you're driving around trying to decide which jeep is worthy of one of your waves. ;)

I spent all last summer here in WI with the hardtop bolted on until I could afford the Harken Hoister and the Softopper this spring. I don't know but assume others were sadly shaking their heads at me. Thankfully it's all good now.

It's strange to me how many judgmental people there are in the Jeep world. I can't say I've ever experienced anything like it with any other hobby/activity I've been involved in before.
I'm 54 and after working outside in the elements for so many years, I've lost all my tolerance for hot weather. So the top and doors stay on and the air is cranked to max.
If someone doesn't want to wave back, No F#cks will be given.
:)

My top is off and the AC is blasting. So there.:flipoff:

A little SW of WI in Iowa, top off, doors off, AC on when my feet get toasty, or feet out the door.

Sometimes my top is off, sometimes it's on, sometimes the sunrider is flipped back.....depends on the humidity here or if I have a meeting at work that I don't want to be sweating wet for. Regardless, I wave at EVERY Jeep. Unfortunately more & more don't wave back these days.

But, I just can't comprehend the mindset of any Jeep owner, that would become so upset simply because a fellow Jeeper has their soft top is on, that they wouldn't wave to them. Really just unbelievable.

When i have my top off and pass someone with their top on, I just think what they are missing out on. Of course I don't know why they have it on, like someone a few post back said maybe going to a business meeting and can't be sweaty. I still wave. I wonder what they said about me today in the rain with the top and doors off and a smile. I have found the modded jeeps almost always wave, while the stock unlimited are a 5o /50 chance.

Having the top on in summer weather is one thing on the road, but on a trail...!? I wheeled last weekend in some excellent weather and had a group of JKU rubicons pass by. Nice looking jeeps! Top on, windows up, and I'm sure A/C blasting. It was a "most difficult" trail too so they must know something about jeeps. I just don't get some people.

My JKU is my DD so it stays buttoned up and I run the air. I also haul my 92 yr old Mom around. What you don't know is I have a naked TJ that I drive as often as possible, so don't hate. The only thing I don't like about running naked is the damn clean up after a long dusty trail ride, but that's a small price to pay for the fun I have and the stupid grin on my face.

I typically run top off and doors off in the summer, but if the wife is with me, and we are going on highways for any length of time, you'll see us with doors on. I'm trying to find a set of half doors to cut down on the wind a little. My wife's hair gets pretty crazy too. It's even worse in the Jeep than it is on the bike. More of a swirling effect I suppose.

All depends for me, many factors involved on if what I'll take off and when. Like...

1) Time (if I have the time to put it all on and off)
2) Heat (I start contemplating the AC at 95 degrees)
3) Rain (shower is fine, not a downpour for me)
4) Destination (depends where and how long I'll be gone)
5) Girlfriend (typical stuff, but she swears shes a Jeep girl)
6) Activity's (grocery shopping, etc)
7) Energy (sometimes I just dont have the energy to do it all for a quick trip to the store)
8) Direct sun (I shave my head, or may not want the sun directly on me for hours during the hottest part of the day)
9) Stray cats (yes they will spray your interior if left opened up)
10) Offroad (mandatory doors and top off)

I tend to take the doors off and zip the back window down more than anything just because its so much easier and I still get that open air feeling. Would go doorless all year if I could. Even with a lot of the above factors, I'll still take the doors and back window off.

I still wave at all fellow Jeepers, even the JK'ers fully buttoned up. Cause one day they will learn the true joys of a Jeep as they just have their toes in the water. Me, I'll be splashing around and showing how much fun Im having :drinks:

After having my TJ for a week I immediately understood there was a time and place for top off doors off ( what I like to call the pants off dance off ). Cruising around town its great but sitting in traffic on 95 kinda sucks with a naked Jeep. I'm not afraid of an incidental shower but if there's a significant predicable chance of rain I'm not going to ignore it and pretend I'd be happy about getting caught in the rain... Wave regardless. Why judge?

My jeep doesn't have ac... Sometimes I still turn the knob all the way cold just to make myself feel better though.

As for the wife situation mentioned, my girlfriend hates the wind in her hair too, but deals with it because otherwise she would be drenched in sweat by the time we get where we are going. Moral of the story: if your significant other likes the top up ac on, just take the ac out. Then they have no choice.

I drive around with no clothes on at all and since I never see anyone else in a Wrangler riding this way I refuse to wave to anyone. It's disgusting how many people choose to wear clothes in a Wrangler anymore. I only show respect to those who act like me; think like me; and drive like me.......everyone else can take a flying **** at a rolling doughnut.

By the way, some people just can't handle the heat, like my son. High heat makes him more prone to seizures. You haven't had a scare until you're on a two lane highway with no shoulder and your 17 year old 200 lb kid has one in the back seat and is yelling he needs air trying opening the door at 70 MPH. Holding him by the belt and trying to keep him from jumping out while controlling the vehicle was the biggest scare I've ever had.

I hate seeing jeeps buttoned up on a beautiful day too, but its usually jealousy that causes it. Wife isn't ready to let our little girl ride in the topless jeep yet so a lot of times it comes down to drive the wrangler with the top up or don't drive it at all. Even when she's not with me I often don't have the time to drop the top for a 5 minute trip to the store. Trust me, I'd love to have a naked jeep all the time but sometimes a fully clothed jeep is better than no jeep at all. If you you don't wave back at me that's your problem.
