Talking Total Honesty

How much, including purchase price, do you have tied up in your wrangler?

Not what you have told your wife/husband but what you have actually spent. If you are like me and enjoy working on your Jeep don't include labor costs unless you paid for it to be done.

2002 Sport and I'm just shy of 19k total with purchase price and what I have bought to upgrade, repair, and/or fix since 2011. I'm hoping to not spend anything in 2014 on her because the last 2K was my transmission and my pockets are empty.

About 5k, but only had it 2 or 3 months.

Thinks I had to do so far

Bedline interior-100
front seat covers-65
tires-500
soft top-150
half doors-200
fluid change-75
track bar-48
steering damper-22

Still need
lights-150ish
tune up-100?
shocks-200
coolant change-40
fix turn signal switch-35
swaybar links-50?
winch and bumper-1k
paint job (at least just the hood)500-1k
maybe a hilift-75
bought for 4k, have about a grand, maybe a bit more in it. I'd say another 2k and ill be happy. Its not a daily driver, more of a trail/hunting vehicle, with some light driving around town.

26k at least. But 19k was the Jeep. I got it it last year with only 33,000 miles and bone stock. It's a 2006 Unlimited that I just couldn't pass up.

Short list of some of the new stuff i bought over the last year; 3" lift, 33" tires and rims x5, new bumpers, winch, soft top, front seats, LED headlights, new stereo/speakers. Busy year! lol

Next on the list, regear and supercharger

Um, 5k for the Jeep,
100 to have a buddy fix the frame
50ish for coil pack
650 for the springs, shocks, and quick discos
175 for front bumper
420 for winch & cover
400 for the 33s (which then I sold the 31s for 450)
180 for the bl&mml
70 for the led tails
180 for the hard top

Looks like just under 7k total
But then again I already had the wheels, the sub/amp, and it came with a h.u. installed..

That's it aside from general maintenance..

10,800 for the jeep.
$250 for a new tire two days later.
Just spent $250 on ZJ steering
$950 for a lift kit
Front axle u joints $100(had to have a shop press them out because of corrosion)
$504 for the Metalcloak bumper
$350 for the winch
$440 for the headlights
$200 for the seat covers
I know I have to be missing a few things

$160 for the 8.8 about to go in,
$350 for the artec truss and swap kit

And I'm about to drop $2000 on a long arm upgrade, adjustable track bars and new brackets for the front axle. And whatever I need for gear to rebuild the 8.8. I've only had it 10 months

I would say on my 05 after I get my savvy tuck done around 23 k but the PO did a $hit job on everything the only thing I have kept was the springs and they may be going soon....if my wife ever finds out what I have in it , she will bury me in it ...... its a good thing I can do all the work myself but still trying to find the time to get it done under the radar so to speak ..... she only know when I do bring it home that more things have changed.... everything seems to come in $200 to $300 increments....... but hey its great therapy and I enjoy working on it

Initial cost was free. Some guy traded me his 97 wrangler for my 04 liberty with payments. I only had the Libby cause my wife thought I would like it once I came home from Iraq. Anyways, have no idea the initial cost. I have:
400 new tires
130 fuel tank skid
150 custom front and rear bumpers (Junkyard)
80 headlight/taillight guards
custom hood and decals self done
interior upgrades self done
fabrication items self done.

Hmm, you guys did better than me. I bought my 06 Rubicon with 1.5 miles on it, new in May of 06...... The sticker says $30,500.00....... I got divorced a year later.... So.. I made payments on my jeep for 5 years. After all that I put around $6,500 in winch lift and tires. Currie steering. Tom Woods DC driveshaft. Centerforce clutch. Not including interest on my car loan which was a good rate I'd say around $40,000

Funny, I was just adding up all the money I've spent on upgrades. I traded a truck straight across for my wrangler so no money out of pocket for the jeep.

7,800 in upgrades spent in the 4 months I've had it. 450 of that today for the front fox resi shocks..

I'm starting to feel a little better about my Jeep now after seeing what you guys have done. I was slowly working on projects and maintenance on a fun Jeep that was originally a weekend driver.

Since nothing ever goes as planned, she has since become a daily driver with a commute of about 82 miles daily (there and back). I enjoy the ride and today I will ride home with the top down and a big smile (gotta love TX) but most of the 7,500 I have spent after purchase has been on maintenance and very few upgrades. I was really questioning my sanity but feel better now.

I paid $5200 for my 98 with 183K on it 8 months ago. I have bought new tires $820, body lift $130, new shocks $275, Igee car seats $300, new stereo and sub $400, warn winch on CL for $300, frameless soft top on CL for $150, Poison Spyder hood louve $175, new discos $40, new rear brakes $50, bumper end caps $25, KC lights $130, rear LCD lights $189, H4 headlights $55, winch plate $75, bull bar $50 and my buddies labor of about $500 for a total of around $8750.

I will probably buy the bushwacker flat fender flares for $375 within the next month or so. Rock rails after that and the list goes on. I hope I can stop when I reach the price of the jeep in after market stuff. I only have $1500 to go. LOL!
