Tow Bar / Stock Bumper?

Has anyone mounted a tow bar to the stock TJ bumpers? If so, any pics of where you mounted the connecting brackets?

Never did it on a Tj, but I did have a CJ that used one. I also had a YJ front bumper which was thicker. As i recall the the mounting holes where in line with the bumper frame bolts.

Tow Bar

I have a Sterling tow bar (by roadmaster) that I use to tow the Jeep behind my motorhome. It completely disconnects from the Jeep. The tow bar itself connects to brackets that are part of a piece that attaches to brackets on each of the frame rails. (see photo)

They are bolted to the side and bottom of the frame rails. I'm told that they will not interfere with mounting an aftermarket bumper. They do however interfere with installing an Anti-Rock. When I get to that point, I'm going to have to rework the brackets. I've had no problems with clearance yet either. Overall, I'm very happy with the performance of the Sterling tow bar.

I mounted mine to the stock bumper (97 tj) right where it bolts to the frame. I figured that was the area where the bumper would be strongest. I put a reinforcing plate behind the bumper just for peice of mind.
My tow bar also completly disconects, leaving just the brackets behind.
Works well for me.

Same here. Have towed my 01 TJ everywhere. Picked up an inexpensive tow bar (strong) for $99.00 with brackets and just made sure the bar was level when towed. The brackets were located where the frame is. However, now that states are requiring brakes, I'm picking up a trailer. Jeez.
