Hey guys, I'm new on here. I was looking at some Smittybuilt hooks on Quadratec. They come with hardware. I just wanted to make sure there were no nuts that were required with the bolts.

Just get some hooks from tractor supply company and some grade 8 bolts from a hardware store.

To answer your question, if the hooks are for the front there are nuts inside the frame. If you look at the front of your Jeep, the hooks should use the same bolts that are on the top of your bumper; there are two on each side. Typically you remove those torx bolts and replace those with longer grade 8 bolts. Usually the hooks you buy come with the proper length bolts, but double check that they are the proper grade.

^X2. The hooks I bought at a farm store years ago came with bolts. But, they were fine thread and no idea of the grade. You want 1/2" course thread IIRC.

X2, just make sure to use nothing but a Grade 5 or (better) Grade 8.

Thanks for the words. Im hearing more and more about hoing to a farm store, such as tracye supply. Do those hooks from a farm store ALREADY have the correctly spaced holes to match the ones on the jeep?

I used the factory hooks off of my old ZJ on the front of my TJ. They bolted right on. That might be an option for anybody out junkyarding. They still might not be any cheaper than Tractor supply though.

Question: Are factory installed hooks on a stock bumper safe or do I need to change the bolt to grade 5 or 8 as per other posts? My hooks are part of the package for my type of jeep.

You can bet the farm the factory tow hook bolts are rated for that usage. IIRC, the hooks themselves are rated to 9,500 lbs.
