Tow hooks or Clevis mounts?

I'm curious which do you prefer on your bumper? the tow hooks that mount on top of the bumper or clevis mounts welded to the front of the bumper. which is better? I'm having a bumper made, and wonder if I should get it with the clevis mounts or not. thanks

i prefer the clevis mounts. if you go that route make sure you have them weld thru the bumper welded front and back, not just butt welded on front...

Never ever just weld something like a clevis to the front of a bumper, a surface weld is just not nearly strong enough for that type of usage. It absolutely must either be thru-bolted in place using Grade 5 or Grade 8 hardware, or the clevis must mount to a tab that is through-welded to the front and rear of the bumper.

I've had both, hooks and clevises, and the clevis mounts are more secure. Make sure that if you go with clevis mounts that they are specifically designed for vehicle recovery with through-tabs that can be welded to the front and rear of the bumper.

On my (brand unknown, welded back/front unknown at this time) winch bumper the D ring piece is 0.750 in thk and the hole dia is 0.855 in, which allows a decent size shackle.

My mounts are 1" thick, with a 3/4 hole, for a 3/4 clevis...
