Towing with the TJ

So I have a 1998 Wrangler, 2.5L 4x4 5spd, and I want to get a little boat to tow behind it. Something like a 16ft aluminum side console weighing approx. 1000ibs. Does anyone think I will have any issues towing a boat of this weight with my bigger tires?

The ABSOLUTE farthest I would ever tow it would be 3 hours from my house (approx 130 miles) to the beach, not needing to ever exceed 60, and very unlikely to happen ever. More likely towing it 30 minutes from my house to a nearby lake not needing to exceed 45 on the weekends and about an hour and 15 minutes away to my farm during waterfowl season to go hunting with speeds up to 60.

I towed a 1,300+ pound camper trailer on a 4 hour trip into the mountians. Speeds from 60-70 normally. Just cautious braking and stayed in slow lane. No problems for me. Buttttt I have a 4.0 5 speed, so I do have more power...

Sounds like you can do it and will be fine. Just don't expect it to pull as if you had a 4.0 or bigger motor.

I never would have expected to pull like a 4.0 but the reminder is nice. I did finally pass someone (first time since the lift) on a 2 lane highway the other day, that was exciting. But thank you for your input
