I have a 2005 Jeep that I picked up about two months ago. I lucked out and found her with only 17,000 miles on the odometer. Though I like the low miles on everything I think the amount of time it spend sitting wore out some parts and now I am trying to figure out what needs to be replaced.
I have some play and slight pulsation in the clutch/brake pedal over bumps and I have been trying to trouble shoot different things to figure out what the problem is. It seems the PO didn't really grease anything with zerks... I have already replaced the trackbar with a Metalcloak one for my future lift and that tightened things up a bit (I did see play during a dry steering test). When I removed it and looked under the dust boot it had this white/pink sticky grease and it was not very full. I'm sure it isn't supposed to look like that... I haven't replaced anything else because I don't want to waste money replacing unnecessary parts. If I don't see any play in the tie rods or ball joints is there a way I can clean them to get new grease in? They are all blocked because when I try to use a grease gun nothing goes in...
Also, there are some parts that look pretty cracked like the body mounts and lower control arms bushings. I plan to replace the body mounts when I do my lift because of two things... They are really worn AND whoever installed the 1.75" body lift forgot the passenger side body mount over the rear axle... I can't really tell if the LCA bushings need to be replaced, but there is some squeaks and creaks that happen and I am thinking it may be those. Maybe this could contribute to my brake/clutch pulsation?
Lastly, I am not too sure if after 10 years my trans mount could be broken/rotted but I feel some creaking underneath the drivers floorboard. I am not too sure what I am looking for but with a flashlight it seems to look normal... The creak isn't related to speed or anything but it happens fairly often but not at a regular speed or anything. It seems to make the same noise when I go into reverse and let off the clutch a bit quick so I am wondering if it is related to the trans mount. This noise started after I went off roading recently and beat the heck out of the skid plate, so maybe something bent and is rubbing under there.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
