I currently have a stock 1997 TJ with a 2.5 and dana 35 in the rear. I was looking at buying a lift and 33's till I passed the Honda dealership locally on my way home from work at 7 in the morning so I stuck around the lot till 830 am sales opening time. I know I know buttt....
They have a 2004 I6 5 speed dana 44 rear. 4 inch lift 33's and tube fenders. Rocker rails and corner guards. They were asking 17500 for it but I have them worked down to 14150 and 3 thousand for my 1997 as trade in that has 150,000 miles. Who would do it?
DEFINATELY do it. I traded in my 4 banger for a 6 cylinder, it makes a TON of a difference. Plus, if it is already lifted with bigger tires, that saves you a lot of time and money. Besides, you wouldn't be able to put anything bigger than 33s on that d35 you have now.
Just make you test drive the hell out of it, and make sure you don't hate anything about it.
Is that $14k including the $3k for yours, so you only are paying $11k, or $14k after your trade? Generally dealers only pay auction value for trades so you can likely sell it yourself for another $1k+, but it's your money, time and aggravation... If you are going to pay 14k for it then they have only come down $350. That's too much for an '04 in my neck of the woods.
I have to wait till the morning. Im going NUTS on my day off . Gahh what to do what to do. I had them place it on the lift and i spon the tire once to 4.5 turns of the drive shaft so Im going for 4.56 gears. I runs perfect. AWSOME power. i know i know the gears
But what do 4 cyl Jeeps go for in your area? if its much more than 3k it may be well worth financing the 14k....then selling yours on your own, then refinancing the jeep (putting down the money you sold your jeep for). And do the refi at your bank/credit union. interest rates are low as hell. so that should save you some money.

Hey man, i'm in Waynesboro myself. We'll have to get together sometime. Personally, I feel your Jeep is worth more than what they're offering. If they came down that quickly, there's room for some negotiation. Try to mask your wood while making your offer. If you walk around with a hi-lift jack handle in your pants, they won't budge. 1st I can tell you they didn't come down on the price. the 17k is a smoke price.. this is sales. I would start at 14k price and work a deal off of that. As for the lift.. what kind of lift is it? Does the jeep have a SYE? What kind of tires... etc etc..

If I were you, I'd restart negotiations today. That 17,000 is a smoke price (as mentioned) and really the price you should be targeting is $14,000 even. I would offer him $13,500 today with no trade-in, or $10,600 with trade-in. You're Jeep is worth about $3400 NADA Trade-In, while the resell is about $6200. You have some wiggle room here. At the same time, are you happy with your Jeep? You were planning on lifting and building it, so why spend an extra $11k just on something newer that you'll want to do the same thing. The extras on it, even the Dana 44, aren't worth $11k in value. If it was me personally, I'd wait it out till my Jeep decided to show some more wear. Good luck

If it were me I would call up the sales guy and tell him to take your offer of $13000 to come over and sign the papers to drive it home and leave the 4 banger with them. The newer jeep has well over 3 grand in extras plus the 6 shooter. I6 is the deal breaker for me. 150k on a 4cyl is great, consider yourself blessed and hand it over to them because your probably going to have a hard time finding someone to give more than $3000 for yours with 150k mi. Now on the other hand you could go get a loan for $10,000 and put anLS1 and blazer running gear in the 4 banger. Just a thought...LOL
So heres the low down. I backed off for a day to go back and hit them with a new price when I entered I saw it was listed for 13500 so I turned around a left. Im the type if I want something I want it on the spot I dont like to be dicked with so I wont return their calls or go back to that dealership.
As for my 1997 black 4 banger. Its almost paid off so I said what the hell!
I ordered a zone lift 4 inch for it from 4x4 group buy and after 5 days of placing the order it still has not shipped and they said they have no record of the order but my money is gone to them already so were currently working it out.
So here comes a 4 inch lift. I got a ford 8.8 for 200 bucks disk brakes and soon to be 4.88s and 35's eventually after my 33's wear out!

I live right in Waynesboro and have a black 97' TJ with a 4 banger, faded paint on the front end, crusty interior, 4" lift, and 32" tires. The irony is that a buddy of mine is dropping off an 8.8 to me next week if he's true to his word. My TJ isn't the greatest looking thing in the world although I'm happy to be back in a Jeep after a few years being waveless. I'll drop you a PM sometime soon and we'll talk shop.
