Trailer Salvage

I recently found this trailer for sale and was wondering how difficult (if at all possible) it would be to sand the exterior and give it a new layer of paint. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Also, the trailer is listed at $500 and seems to have pretty good bones to it.

That rust looks a little beyond sanding. If the frame is in good shape and you like sheet metal work, it may be worth it. What are you wanting to do with it?

I mainly want to use it as extra space for camping gear; most likely nothing too difficult to get to. I don't have any sheet metal working skills but I am very interested in picking it up. Thanks for the advise.

Eh, looks pretty rusty, not sure I would give someone $500 for it BUT if you're just haul short distance and have the time and $ to put in it could be cool.

I would make an offer for $300. I just picked one up for a bit more than that guy is asking for his and mine is rust free, has 3" of lift, 12volt conversion, pintle hitch, custom flares, and 35x12.5" tires. If he doesnt bite shop around. There are quite a few surplus places that sell them. Just look on ebay to get an idea of what they are running around.

where did you see this trailer...cause if you don't buy it, i might

but to answer your questions...you'd want to disassemble the whole damn thing and send it to a local sandblaster. costs a couple hundred bucks, but way worth it vs sanding it by hand.

M416 with a lot of rust. Whoever did the tailgate, it looks like the structural integrity has been compromised. The tub is really out of square. Offer $200 and go from there. I paid $500 for my CDN M101 trailer, and it still has the original tires in excellent shape from 1993. See what the owner says at the price, never know...

Does it still have the original data plates on the upper front left corner?

You can probably get a better trailer here for less:

I've been keeping an eye on that site for the last few months but can never find a 1/4 ton trailer in Colorado.

Unlimited: I don't think I am going to end up making an offer on this trailer. I can't find the link anymore but if you PM me, I can give you the guys phone number.
