Trailer Wiring

o.k. guys, I'm sure some of you have wired your tj's for trailer lights. Any hints or tips???

I admit I just started looking online and researching on my own, but I just thought I would talk to some ppl. who have done it.

TIA,
~Cooper

Use a plug-in trailer wiring harness like you can find in most auto parts or 4x4 stores. Even Quadratec has them. They consist of a T-connector which means they plug in between an existing plug connector found behind the tail light assembly. I've hard-wired many (!) trailer plugs into various vehicles over way too many years, the T-style plug in wiring harnesses are far easier and they work well.

I think mine came from Advance Auto for abot $14. Like Jerry said its plug and play. I did take the pains to go back and rewrap it to help protect it, but I tent to do that to all of my wires.

Yeah, what they all said! You can even get the Mopar one fm the dealer, it's a few bucks more, but I was ordering something else at the same time, so I did it, I think you have to remove a couple screws in the pass side rear wheel well, IIRC, and it only took 15-20 minutes, and that included a beer break!

I have LED lights, so the Jeep Wrangler trailer kits wouldn't work since I don't use the plugs anymore. I got a generic/universal one and spliced it in to the proper wires on the driver/rear taillight and ran the wires down to the bumper. The excess wire, when not is use, rests inside the back of the frame, where the gas skid keeps it from falling down. Totally hidden.
