Tranny issues!!!

Help please! It seems as if my tranny's going out, I think? Bought this Tj used and 5th has always been rough. Found out fluid was low after a long trip to the dunes. Replaced fluid with Synchromax purple synthetic but now I'm having a tough time down shifting into 3rd and 2nd. Any ideas???

Beginning to think its just another one of those "jeep things". I changed my tranny fluid out last weekend because I was having the same problem. I used the royal purple synchromax as well. It seems to have helped a little but still grabs a little going into gear. I have noticed if you get the rpm's a little higher it seems to help a bit. It could be your synchronizers but no way of knowing without tearing it apart. If you didnt find any chunks of metal in your tranny after draining it you should be good.

Thanks 03Ruth! I didn't see any chunks or even any small fragments of any kind when I changed the oil. Also I did try to rev it up a bit when going into 3rd and 2nd and that does seem to help keep it from grinding at all. I've been a CDL driver for years and now I guess I need to start driving my Jeep like a big rig. LOL!
