Transmission Chatter

I've had my Jeep for about 2 months now. 2002, 4.0L, 5spd manual. When I first bought it, I didn't notice this, but now I get a "chatter" whenever the engine is running and the gearbox is in neutral with the clutch released. When I push the clutch in, the chatter goes away the moment the clutch begins to grip. It's usually not very loud, just audible over the engine idling, but sometimes when the engine is very hot, it seems to be louder. Moving the gearshift does not affect the sound, I can move it all the way to either side, let it rest in the center, or even begin to slide it into a gear, and the noise is still there. The only time it goes away is if the clutch is in, or the Jeep is fully in gear. I also notice that it requires quite a bit of force to pull it out of 5th gear, is this normal, or could something be out of alignment with the motor/transmission mounts? Any insight or help is appreciated!

Sounds normal to me, but it's usually described as a can of marbles. The nv3550 is a very noisy transmission and over time will become harder to shift. There are a lot of threads on here about what oil to use and about flushing out the trans to help it shift smoother.
I know a lot of things, most of them are only correct in my own head...
Better to be judged by twelve then carried by six. I'm sure this is going to get me in trouble down the line
