Transmission issues

New to the forum. I'm a proud owner of my first jeep this last month and have managed to break it already lol. I was playing around on the sand dunes here in Oregon in my 97' tj, I was in 4hi climbing a rather shallow dune. It was lugging pretty hard and I knew I should have put into 4lo but hind sight is always 20/20. Anyways as I was climing this dune I heard a violent BAM! And lost all drive to my tires ( drive, reverse, ect.) I dropped the t case and appears to be fine so my thought is obviously the transmission. Would any body know what exactly could have broke all at once to have this happen? It's a 4L auto. 35's stock gears. Thanks so much for any input

a quick way to loose everything would be input shaft. is there any feel to the shifter at all? noises if it is rolling in neutral?

Um didn't notice any new noises when being towed but I did have the tcase in N... And no there is no feel to the shifter. It freely moves ( much lighter than normal if that makes sense).
