I'm looking for the sockets/tools needed to drain the manual transmission and transfer fluids. The transfer case has a 1/2" hex head plug. The transmission has a very large hex head plug. does anyone know what size and where to procure a socket/tool to get the plug out?
That would probably depend on which manual transmission your jeep has. Without knowing the year or transmission model you're leaving us guessing. I know the NV3550 has a 17mm Allen head plug. I never found one so I used a bolt that has a 17mm hex head and locked 2 nuts on the thread. It worked like a charm and costs less than $2
+1 on DCLXVI response. I took a bolt with the correct head size to fit the plug and welded a nut onto the other end. If you don't have a welder, you could stack enough nuts and washers to fill the shank and use red locktite to secure it all together. Just an idea.
You might try to check with your local Autozone of other auto part store that has a loan a tool program. They may have a set of sockets for transmissions that you could borrow. I was able to borrow a socket to get the axle nut off that would've cost me $20 to buy for a one time us.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
