Transmission Roaring

I have a 2001 TJ 5spd 4.0. New ring and pinions and no leaks in the rear end. When I am driving at highway speeds and let of the gas I get this loud roaring sound as I am coasting. As soon as i get back on the gas it stops. There is no play side to side in the rear end so that leads me to believe that this noise is coming from the tranny. It shifts just fine and there is no slippage. The jeep is lifted with no SYE. Anyone have any ideas what this is?

Who installed the new gears? It sounds like they probably botched the installation.

It was my local off road shop! The jeep has always done this since the day i bought it. If it is botched could this be a problem long term? Could it possibly be the transmissoin?

Have the installer pull the diff. cover off and inspect the gear pattern. Have them explain why the pattern correct or incorrect. If the diff set up is correct. then it could be in the transmission.

It's the rear diff., take it back, insist they install new gears and do it correctly. I had this same problem on my 97, ended up costing me a rear end job.
